DH and I have finally (well I say finally after much discussion) decided upon a choice between:

Evelyn (known as Evie) (DH's Gran)

and

either Ethan or Isaac

so....let me know what you think!!

oh and DD is Lucie and our surname starts with S.

littleboyblue · 16/12/2008 21:56

Isaac may be a bit much with the S surname. But love them all, they were all on my list

moondog · 16/12/2008 21:58

Can't be doing with jewish names.
Ethan is too of this moment.
Evelyn is a name for a great big jessie of a lad.

MmmMum · 16/12/2008 22:00

Evelyn is a really sweet name.
I like Isaac best, deary.

PinkPoinsettias · 16/12/2008 22:00

love both the boys names... not keen on evelyn tbh but evie is cute enough

ForeverOptimistic · 16/12/2008 22:01

You did mean Evelyn for a girl didn't you? For a girl it is lovely, for a boy it is a no brainer you can't just can't use it for a boy!

I don't mind Ethan or Issac but I am not really into biblical names.

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 16/12/2008 22:01

Don't like Evelyn, sorry.

Same with Ethan.

Isaac is lovely

fishie · 16/12/2008 22:02

MOONDOG if you haven't got anything nice to say....

forkhandles · 16/12/2008 22:02

I really like Evie and Isaac, had them on my lists for DC, but not Ethan.

Nancy66 · 16/12/2008 22:04

I like Eve rather than Evie and don't really like Evelyn - which just makes me think of a 50 year old hairdresser.

Ethan is a wee bit chav I think - i know the mention of the C word drives certain people on here potty - but, so be it.

Isaac is ok.

MrsBadger · 16/12/2008 22:06

Evelyn for a girl, yes?

Ethan is quite 'now' and I confess a horror or hearing it pronounced 'Eefan' so would avoid it to avoid this, iyswim

Isaac will become Zak very quickly

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 16/12/2008 22:11

Evelyn for a girl is lovely - completely impartial comment from me

We thought Evelyn would always be Evie as a short name, but hardly anybody calls her Evie.

babylovessanta · 16/12/2008 22:11

I like them all.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 16/12/2008 22:12

lol at 50 year old hairdresser
Profile pics show a baby Evelyn

StephanieByng · 16/12/2008 22:20

Evelyn and Isaac, lovely.

Don't like Ethan, it's not an attractive name imo and it is very much used just now.

VersdeSociete · 16/12/2008 22:23

Er, Jewish names, moondog?

RachieB · 16/12/2008 23:10

Love Evie and Isaac

flaminhell · 16/12/2008 23:21

Moondog, is it a full moon? Issac is a good one i like it

ninedragons · 16/12/2008 23:21

Evelyn is lovely.

Ethan is very 2008, and Mrs Badger is right, you would have to engineer his social life to ensure he never met anyone with a Sarf Lunnun accent. As far as Old Testament names go, I prefer David and Noah.

thumbElf · 16/12/2008 23:24

I do love Evelyn (male or female), or Eveline as my great aunt has it spelt (defo female).

Ethan and Isaac are a bit too biblebelt for me, but of the 2 I prefer Ethan. (And before anyone gets offended, I am not anti-Christian, far from it!)

Beccabump · 17/12/2008 21:19

Hehehe guess i wasn't too clear in the end!! Yes, Evie would be for a girl!!

We aren't going for religious names as such but we have a tradition in the family to use traditional and 'new' names i.e. everyone has a different name. Unfortunately as we have just recently received my 21st cousin (yes 21 cousins!) into the family names are getting a little scarce!

I am gradually going off Ethan to so it looks as though it will be either Isaac for a boy or Evelyn for a girl

Am still about the "can't be doing with Jewish names" remark and thinking of things one might replace "Jewish" with which would highlight why it is unacceptable.

MrsMattie · 17/12/2008 21:24

What a strange comment (re: Jewish names)

I love Isaac. Not so keen on your other choices.

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 17/12/2008 21:26

Like them all prefer Evie but like Eveline!

bronze · 17/12/2008 21:28

I like them all especially Evelyn (for a girl), my dds middle name named after my gran who died days before dd was born. And Isaac which fills my love of biblical boys names

mummiesnet · 17/12/2008 21:31

What about Russell-Jay? I love that name.
