Kerr?

We had decided to call ds2, due in 4 weeks, Kerr (dh still has this as his favourite) but I just want to be sure we are not choosing something people will sneer and laugh at when they hear his name.

Can mumsnet help us decide? Ds1 is Ross if that sways opinions any. We also like Greig or Sam as possible alternatives.

DD2's wee pal at nursery has a brother called Gregor.

and we've got a son called Struan.

Either our names are common as muck or far more likely just great, proper scottish names.

Like Kerr they are names of sturdy strong wee boys who grow up to play rugby!

Kerr is very nice. But ignore Boco, you must have Ang as a middle name.

Am I the only one who's 1st thought was Wan?

Sorry, but you did ask

It is lovely.

Ignore the English {fwink}

We Scots find Carl hard to prounce comes out like Carol

FIMBOingaroundtheChristmasTree · 17/12/2008 14:40

Arrgh

MadamAntlers · 17/12/2008 14:46

I thought Kerr was pronounced "car".

Or is this a result of my nobboid public school education, being surrounded by sloanes?

poinsettydog · 17/12/2008 17:27

I think the answer must be yes, antlers.

It is pronounced Kerr.

Do yo know the Beano editor is/was called Euan Kerr?

Scotia · 18/12/2008 09:27

Thanks again for all your opinions, we will definitely be sticking with Kerr. I like it because it is unusual without being too way out.

I agree about Carl too, although I think it's lovely name, nobody Scottish can ponounce it nicely. My friend (a Geordie married to a Scot) wanted to use this for her ds but her dh couldn't pronounce it without it sounding like the girls' name Carol so they decided against it.

I'm not sure about Kerr, but I certainly wouldn't laugh.

I love Ross BTW..it's one of DS1s names.

CuppaTeaJanice · 18/12/2008 12:53

Just don't use it as a middle name after Wayne!!
