Is Ava gaining popularity?

I love the name but have heard of a couple of girls being named Ava recently. I thought I was being really original when I named my son Luca 5 years ago, and since then I've met quite a few! I want a name that goes with Luca without sounding too 'fashionable'...

Ava is ridiculously popular. Don't do it.

SparklyGothKat · 23/01/2009 23:12

FimboRabbieBurns · 23/01/2009 23:14

i absolutely love the name ava but yeah it is extremely popular where i live atm. im not a worrier about the names popularity thought surely does it not just mean that alot of mothers chose it because its a beautiful name? Id rather give my baby a nice name that happens to be quite popular than a stupid name that no1s ever heard and can barely say haha just my opinion lol xxxxxxxxxxxx

LaDiDaDi · 24/01/2009 10:35

I think it's very popular at the moment.

You can't call a child Coco.

kerryk · 24/01/2009 15:20

i dont know of any ava's where i am (scotland)

my dd1 has a beautifull unusaul scottish name, we have had loads of comments about it since she was born but my bloody parents (love them really) put the birth announcment in the local paper and for months after she was born the same name kept on appearing in the birth announcments in the same paper

i know i dont "own" the name but i liked the fact it was original.

TheMadHouse · 24/01/2009 15:26

kerryk what's your dd's name?

amandine07 · 03/02/2009 19:03

Ava is a beautiful name, very short & simple but has an enduring quality to it.
I think Luca & Ava would be such a cute combination!

ScottishMummy · 03/02/2009 19:12

Ava is really fashioanable at the mo.galloping up the babyname charts i know 4.also the myleene factor (she has Ava too)

Wheelybug · 03/02/2009 19:16

I think its a lovely name.

I am facing similar dilemmas over a name that was once unusual but has now become popular that DH really likes. I don't actually know any so that's what I'm going to go by I think and hope for the best (although am still working on DH for my favourite name...).

If you don't know of any, I would go for it.
