Watching mean girls on telly (not sure why but hey). The main girl is called Cady (pronounced kay-dee.

I really like the sound of it ,although don't like the spelling, maybe a better way? Writing it down it looks odd, like CAD - EEE but I like the way it is said.

What does everybody else think?

I just think it is a very pretty name when said outloud, but when you write it down it looks awful

Obviously no-one makes names 'official' but I wish there was! Some people saddle their children with the most ridiculous names/spellings just to be 'different'. Its just sad.

I thought the girl in Mean Girls was called caty?

Cady does sound chavvy though no matter what way it is spelt.

Chavvy and downmarket and she'll be forever spelling it and correcting people.

My friends DD is Kadie.

I think it's nice there is no such thing as a chavvy name it's just people's perceptions if you like it go for it.

My DH says every time i get pg 'ooh can we call a girl Cady'. We would use Cadence, but the name is not really for me.

No, it sounds low-rent and kind of made-up which may be OK in theory but basically says We tried way too hard.

It sounds like you've just given her initials rather than a name (think kd lang).

When I started school, we had an American girl in the class who everyone - including the teacher - thought was called Cady.

Did this stem from K.D.Lang, perchance? Don't like it as a name, it does just sound like someone has made a word out of 2 initials. Call your DD Katherine Daisy (or somesuch) and then you can legitimately call her K.D.

pregapuss, I was at school with a girl called Mysheele [pronounced Michelle]. We worked on the principle that her parents couldn't spell, not that they were evil twisted bastards who wanted to saddle their daughter with an impossible spelling of a fairly standard name.

She will be spelling K..A..D..Y out for people for the rest of her life. And everyone will call her Katie and think she has a strange accent.

Cadence is nice, and using the initials K.D. as ThumbElf suggests would work too as it would sound the same.

A secretary at work told me her grand-daugher was being named Brittanny Josephine as they were going to call her B.J. I looked a bit stunned and managed to stutter "Oh...how...nice".
