can we have a name if we no someone else with it help

Me and dh really like a name, in fact it is what he would have been called by his mum if he were a girl. Problem is someone at dhs work place has a daughter with same name. Dh said he would feel silly telling people at work once we've had baby (we know its going to be a girl) because of this collegue. Help its my fave name.

If it's only a colleague, I would go for it. If it was a good friend or relative - someone that is always going to be in your life - then no, I wouldn't.

I'm loving ahumfdemumf! Let's see if we can actually get someone to call their child that!

Picture yourselves in five years' time when your daughter says to you 'but why am I called this?' and you say 'well we WOULD have called you x which is a name we love and has a family history but someone daddy used to work with had a relative with the same name, so we had to go with our second choice which was - your name...' she's going to love that, isn't she??

Choose a name that warms your cockles, I did. I'll be honest, if someone I worked with had done this I would have had a single moment of 'Oh...' but that would be it. And most people are nicer than me so won't even have that moment, they will be too busy giving you lots of congratulations.

If its a colleague, and the two children are unlikely to meet (much or at all), then I would go for it, and I bet your DH's colleague would be pleased you have also chosen such a good name. Just get your DH to tell everyone at work it was your choice - problem solved!
