I had never heard it for a girl before but SIL keeps sugging it for a girls name

I am not too sure and I first thought it was a boys name when she said it!

Just wanted to ask what you all think as MIL really likes it too.

We have a short surname so wanted a fairly long first name to go with it.

What are your views?

hey pregapuss, it may not even be worth bothering putting names on here, unless it's Amelia, Katharine, Emilia or Ella or any other top 10 name otherwise it'll get roundly booed off.
FWIW I don't like Madison but only because of its 'Splash' origins (it's the name the mermaid Darryl Hannah gave to herself) which led it to become VERY poular in the States since then, they've even started with Addison now??
Think you're copping a lot of flak for just asking for advice but don't be put off too much as we've patently got nothing better to do!!
ps I love eloise and whilst I on't like Cady, i know of one who is delightful and not remotely chav(perish the thought)

My little girl is called Madison, Madison Ruby.
We chose it because of its meaning, Mighty, because she is a fighter, nothing to do with American versions/places or names.
She is known as Madi-Roo.
I think those that are being quite rude about the name, i.e. calling it chavvy etc should think about the people who have children with that name, the OP asked for opinions, not for people to lay into the name!
BTW We aren't chavvy, not even slightly!

pregapuss · 10/12/2008 22:35

I agree Nikki - all it needs is a simple "no" if you don't like it.

Sorry, not for me, I also think it's chavvy but do like Eloise, it's very pretty.
