Ted as official name?

Really like the name Ted for my new baby boy, but is it too informal too be his official name? I'm not keen on going for Edward or Theodore, would rather register him with the name we'll call him ... views welcome!

@Sandmaennchen , Ted is actually short for Tedwina.

Friends son is Edward, known as Teddy from birth, with the intention to shorten it to Tec as he got older. Aged 5, a child called him “teddy bear” at school and he’s insisted on being Edward ever since, so I say always go for the full name option for BC!
