Ooooh, little boy at DD nursery called Roman, what a lovely name! Manly and brave like a soldier. Wish I had thought of it.

ummm, well, not looking for this debate as I've had it before, but obviously if a parent chooses a relatively classic name which is just still OUT of fashion, but at the end of its dip, and therefore due a cyclical rise, it is the adults who raise eyebrows, not the children.

If there's an Omar in the class the children will think it's like Jack.

BY the time the children are aware of their own names' popularity and 'image' so to speak, the name will often have risen hugely.

I think it's lovely.

btw there's also a famous photographer, Roman Vishniac en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Vishniac

My ds's middle name is Roman, wasnt brave enough to use it as a first name, much to DH's disappointment!
