A brother for Daniel

Found out today that I'm expecting second baby and already mulling over names

dh is not very indulgent so I thought I'd come on here

ds1 is daniel (though I still think he looks more like an Oliver - pics on profile - but it's a long and convoluted tale as to why we went with Daniel)

we decided ages ago that another son would be Roman but I not sure about it (dh is refusing to budge at the moment and I don't want to feel pressured into Roman even though it was me that first suggested it)

other names I like are:
Andreas
Oliver
Henry
James

thoughts on Roman and any other idea gratefully received

ps - I might be popping up here a lot between now and July!

Contender's if we have a boy are

Rhys
Noah
Jonah
Finley

RachieB · 19/11/2008 21:25

when i read the title, the name that i immediately thought of was James they go perfectly IMO

mavornia · 20/11/2008 15:55

Do you think James (Jamie) George sounds awkward or is the flow ok?

also love adam - sounds nice with daniel too

Jamie sounds better than James i think

clairebear88 · 21/11/2008 12:44

Hi

Haha just read my earlier post out loud and Daniel and Samuel would sound stupid.

Daniel and Joseph sound great

mavornia · 21/11/2008 18:07

o, i hadn't even noticed either until i said them out loud - doesn't really work together

we have a Daniel and went with Timothy for son number 2. He was nearly Noah though until the last moment!

Gingerbear · 31/12/2008 20:10

Patrick - obvious choice.

jellibob · 02/01/2009 16:02

Robert's been a great name for DS1. It was the first name that most of his friends could say, albeit mispronounced as "Bobert". We have a Daniel now too.

sadminster · 02/01/2009 17:50

I don't like Roman - Daniel has a classic feel to it while Roman really doesn't.

Oliver, Henry, William are all fine names & I love Patrick

stleger · 02/01/2009 17:56

Ronan? (Dd1's science teacher is Ronan)

stickyj · 02/01/2009 17:58

I have a Daniel Patrick, have Gregory(Greg), Dominic (Dom) and a girl!!! Do my boys are |dom, Greg, * and Dan the Man!

Shoshe · 02/01/2009 18:13

DS1 has Daniel s his middle name, actually it is hyphenated o his first name.

DS2 was Marcus.

nappyaddict · 18/02/2009 13:20

mavorina - just wanted to let you know that Daniel is my favourite name. There is a quote in the Old Testament :

" And among them none was found like Daniel....." implying that Daniel was unique and very special and that has always stuck in my mind. the one and only Daniel I knew years ago totally lived up to this.

That quote is engraved on teh entrance plaque to one of the most beautiful hotels in isarel overlooking the sea called " The Daniel"!!

just had to share that.

but no ideas on new names for you I'm afraid!

schmo · 30/07/2009 11:20

hi I know this is an old message, but I am also expecting my second baby boy in October, and DS1 is also called Daniel! I was just curious what you decided on for DS2?
And Congratulations!

I'm really struggling with names myself - esp as lots of friends have had baby boys in last few months, and my shortlist has shrunk! (Benjamin, William, Joseph and George) My favourites were Benjamin & Jospeh to go with Daniel...however left on my list now is

James (DH very keen on this BUT it's Daniels middle name...)
Samuel (love this but worried it sounds too similar to Daniel)
Toby - really like this too but not my usual taditional name
Ryan
Luke

Also I would prefer a name that can be shortened like Ben/Joe/Sam

This is my first post on here, so hope you don't mind me jumping on board!

My gorgeous DS is Daniel. If my DD had been a boy we had:-

Joseph
Benjamin (used by SIL so can't have now)
Oliver
Harry
Thomas
Samuel

I think Jospeh would have been our choice as I think Dan & Joe sound lovely together.

LouMacca · 30/07/2009 12:27

Oooh didn't realise that this was an old thread. Already posted on it and my latest message is the same!

I see that your baby is due this month - would love an update.

nomorecake · 30/07/2009 14:08

i love joseph too.

from your list i would say andreas or andre.

i think these would work with daniel too

nathan
karl
max
jake
marcus
george
sebastian

We went with Roman! Thanks for asking.

He was born on 15th July, 8lb, 2oz and I managed a natural delivery after a previous c-section and it all went beautifully. He has been an absolute joy so far (meanwhile Mr Daniel has been doing a good impression of Damien from the Omen - he is not impressed with the new arrival at all, but he's only 2yrs 4 ths so we're just showering him with hugs and attention and hoping he'll warm to his little brother eventually...)

I was dithering about the name right up until the last minute and he was nameless for the first 3 days. Our final list was

Roman
James
Adam
Aidan
Henry
Noah

(I also loved Tobias but dh didn't)

But then when I looked at him none of my choices seemed to fit and the name that popped into my head was Benjamin - he's such a quiet, peaceful little soul and Ben is a soft, gentle name.

Of course dh declared he hated Benjamin (and Benedict - my other offering) and wouldn't entertain the idea.

So Roman grew on me again - I always did like it but I think everyone's negative reaction put me off (dh's family were appalled when we announced it and it's all very well saying other people's opinions don't matter but I think we're all secretly delighted when people love our choices).

But now I can't picture him being anything else - and even my mum and other members of the family who weren't so keen now love the name. He is mostly being called Little Roo at the minute - Roman is a big manly name that he'll have to grow into!

Congratulations on your new little boy xxxxxx
