Leonardo?

We're expecting our first DS soon and can't think of a name we both love. Live in London, DH is Italian so we need a name that 'works' both here and back in Italy. He's now suggested Leonardo (we'd call him Leo most of the time). At first I thought I loathed it but now I'm not sure - what do you think? Here are some others we've thought of:

Piero
Giovanni (Joe for short)
Alessandro (Alex for short)

Any comments and ideas much appreciated!

I love Alessandro, Piero, Matteo, Marco, Paulo.

francagoestohollywood · 14/11/2008 17:47

Oh yes, I also like Carlo and Matteo. And Nicola, which probably wouldn't work that well in the UK. I also like Guido.

(BUDA, you know rocco siffredi personally?? )

(Califrau, that's another 10/10 for you in Italian pop culture

Franca - his DS goes to my DS's school!!!!!

Was out at drunken girlie night last year and we were talking about him and i got home and googled him!!!!!!! As you do.

Get to school next day and guess who is first dad I see????? V. weird!

I don't know him other than to say hello to but it's very weird cos as you are walking along and you meet him and say hello you will invariably meet someone who tells you you should have kept your eyes on his face!!!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 14/11/2008 17:55

. I thought they lived in Italy. He is a great actor.........

Tinasan · 14/11/2008 17:57

ooh I'd forgotten about Carlo - that's another contender! Thanks for helping everybody. Guido - hmm like Commissario Brunetti? My dh is Venetian, will ask him if he likes it! Marco is out for same reasons as Francesco, which is a shame.

Leo is a fab name. So is Luca. I'd love a baby Pablo.

Buda · 14/11/2008 18:09

franca - I wouldn't know!!!!!

They have a huge house here somewhere with a studio.

I feel sorry for the kids actually. Imagine telling others what your parents do for a living??

Yeah I had this on my list for ds. Now I prefer Leopold though.

Still like Leonardo though.

Buda · 14/11/2008 18:41

ACtually Rocco is a nice name OP!!!!

Sooo franca - how do you know Rocco Siffredi??? I had NO idea who he was. Nice Catholic convent-educated girl that I am.

francagoestohollywood · 14/11/2008 20:35

Yes I like rocco too.

Buda, he is a celebrity in Italy ...

Buda · 14/11/2008 20:38

Is he really?

He is not that good looking imv but well equipped!

Buda · 14/11/2008 20:38

I can't believe that as soon as I said Leonardo with a porn star dad you knew who it was!

francagoestohollywood · 14/11/2008 20:49

I recently read an interview where he spoke about his children, his work etc...
Yes, he is very popular, in a mainstream sort of way nowadays (he even works with artists, if I remember well)

seeker · 14/11/2008 20:55

Matteo shortened in England to Matt?

dinkymum · 15/11/2008 20:17

dd3 has a lovely friend called Alessandro (Ale for short). She also has Vincenzo and Enrico (Rico) in her class-all great names.
