Ok, we have just found out our longed for 2nd baby is going to be a boy!

We had a name sorted for a girl (Olivia) but struggling for boy's name

I know we've got quite a while to go but I like to be organised

Oliver is out of the question as my best friend's son is Oliver and much as I don't mind sharing names I've chosen, I don't like to steal them from other people

So our list is (in no particular order)

Henry
Oscar
Jesse
Jack

There are names in there that DP likes and I don't and vice versa.

We already have a little boy called Charlie.

Your comments on all the above names would be very very helpful

TIA
Fruity

Oscar or Jesse - Both lovely x

yellowflowers · 14/11/2008 09:34

I love Jesse - am just worried if child had lisp!

girlandboy · 14/11/2008 09:34

I like Henry best.

I'm afraid Jesse has jokey connotations in our house! If dh is being a bit of a wuss about something then he gets called a "big Jessie!"

Fimbo · 14/11/2008 09:34

Charlie & Jack is the best combo in my opinion

LaDiDaDi · 14/11/2008 09:47

Oscar works best with Chalie imo.

I also like Henry a lot but think it is too formal compared with the casualness of Charlie iyswim.

Jack is ok but I think it's too popular for me. Jesse I don't like.

rolandbrowning · 14/11/2008 09:50

I think Oscar goes well with Charlie.

fizzpops · 14/11/2008 09:57

Henry - nice but prefer Harry
Oscar - nice goes well with Charlie
Jesse - not keen I'm afraid due to having a Scottish grandad
Jack - really like this but most popular name ever for the last thousand years, there will be twelve others in his class yada yada yada - if it doesn't bother you etc

Sesi · 14/11/2008 10:00

I love Oscar, sounds good when you say it with Charlie as well. Jesse & Henry both nice too.

I would avoid having a Jack and a Charlie. I think you can end up sounding a bit unoriginal if both the names you choose are in the top ten.

PuzzleRocks · 14/11/2008 10:03

We have chosen Oscar if this one is a boy. Glad to see is it well received.

FruitynNutty · 14/11/2008 13:27

Very interestng so far I'll be showing tis to DP later.

I think they're all great names and all go well with Olivia.

I think Henry would be my favourite - I quite like it abbreviated to Hal, rather than Harry.

I love, love, love Jesse but it does take a big, strong, confident boy to pull off a name like that.

Jack is great but just so damn popular.

Oscar is my least favourite but still a god name. I think it sounds a wee bit swotty to me.

Nancy66 · 14/11/2008 13:32

Whoops - misread - thought you had a girl called Olivia.

2point4kids · 14/11/2008 13:33

Oscar is best and goes well with Charlie (is also closest to Olivia/Oliver)
Jesse second

FiveDollarShake · 14/11/2008 13:38

Oscar and Henry....they are both names I would have chosen for my DC's had DP have let me!

Bubbaluv · 14/11/2008 13:40

I like Henry then Oscar. Jesse sounds a bit "lite" if that makes sense, and Jack is just a bit over-done.

Pinkjenny · 14/11/2008 13:41

I really like Jesse. It's very cool imo. But agree with Nancy66, would take a very self confident boy to carry it.

FruitynNutty · 14/11/2008 14:31

Well DS very confidant little boy but who knows if no2 will be the same.

I'll let on now that I absolutely love the name Oscar and DP absoltely ^loves the name Jesse. I agree that Jesse (although quite a cool name) sounds like a big girls blouse. Most of my family are from the midlands so I'm not sure how it would go down.

We both like Jack and Henry.

I know Jack has been very popular but I don't know any Jacks under 12 yrs old.
I thought, at the time, that Charlie was a popular name but again I don't know any Charlie's under about 7 yrs old. He is the only Charlie in his school

I think, as popular names seem to put people off, they can turn out to be unpopular iykwim?

I just love Oscar so much and DP feels the same about Jesse. It's such a shame really

What about Jesse as a middle name then? It doesn't matter so much that it lacks gravitas if it follows Oscar surely?

shootfromthehip · 14/11/2008 15:45

When I was preggers with DD (who I was CONVINCED was am boy, her name was going to be Oscar Charles as I think it is a nice combo. Jesse is nice if you are never going North of the Border as in Scotland it has connotations of being a wuss. Henry is cute with Charlie but a bit singsongy. Jack is over used.

Why not wait til he gets here- DH and I had favourites (both different) and a shortlist of others. DS looked like NONE of them and we called him a name we had rejected. He suits it and we love it.

shootfromthehip · 14/11/2008 15:46

Oh and Bob is a nice name

nailpolish · 14/11/2008 15:47

Jesse is awful
i like Jack

nailpolish · 14/11/2008 15:47

i quite liike Guy actually

Springflower · 14/11/2008 15:53

I like Guy too!

fizzpops · 14/11/2008 18:37

Just realised Oscar and Charlie are both part of that police/ army alphabet thing (?)...

May be why they sound good together. It wouldn't bother me but I would brace yourself for 'witticisms' if you go with Oscar.

FruitynNutty · 14/11/2008 18:46

I also realised this last week Doesn't bother me at all. Gotta be better than "Ya big Jesse!"
