Walter inspired thread. So, can I make you like my favourite boys' names? Victor, Bruce, Donald, Richard/Richie

They don't get as much love as I feel they deserve!!!

Walter wouldn't be one of MY faves but from that era, I like plenty of names.

Victor is not so different from Oscar or Jasper.
Bruce is like a cool combo of Ben and Gus
Donald is just so cool it hurts me to type it and I wish I'd called my son Donald but I didn't think of it at the time.
Richard isn't so different from Edward, and its nn Richie isn't so different from Archie.

???

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

For me, Cecil evokes an indelible image of Daniel Day Lewis wearing a pince-nez (or was it a monocle) in A Room With A View. Not his best look ever.

There are retro names and there are retro names, if you get my drift.

I like Victor but really rather love Vincent (like scavo)

LuLuBai · 13/11/2008 19:11

Wasn't Daniel Day Lewis's father called Cecil?

Vincent is too gangster-chic for me.

BoccaDellaVerita · 13/11/2008 20:02

Yes, he was. How nicely symmetrical (or summat).

slackrunner · 13/11/2008 20:05

I love Donald, however I think you'd need to either live in Scotland or to be of Scottish descent to make it work.

Megglevache · 13/11/2008 20:08

If I ever have another boy he will be called Douglas I really don't give a gnat's chuffy what people think of it TBH

I love the names on your list especially Victor but I am biased.

MrsGokWan · 13/11/2008 20:46

My children have Richard, Bruce, Ernest, Walter, James, Arthur, Fraser and Thom in their names and I love all of their names

MrsGokWan · 13/11/2008 20:47

Oh!! and Donald

TheNewsMonger · 13/11/2008 21:04

You must have a lot of children!?

Do you have a Victor Megglevache? What good taste you have. I wish I'd called my son Victor Richie Donald Bruce.
His father was more of a William James kind of 'namer'.

MrsGokWan · 13/11/2008 21:11

LOL!! only 3 boys with 3 names a piece

TheNewsMonger · 13/11/2008 21:14

WEll, I applaud your good taste, but I bet your inlaws and colleagues were raising eyebrows for Europe! IGNORE them.

MrsGokWan · 14/11/2008 15:09

Cheers Newsmonger

DH has 3 names as well so it didn't raise any eyebrows and each name is a family name from their GP's, GGP's and so on. I love the fact that when I see my sons I am reminded of the people we love and loved. Also it's great in the the playground, nursery and playgroup when I call them, they are the only children to look up and answer 'yes mummy'

I met a girl I used to go to school with this morning and although her son wasn't with her he is called Victor. Couldn't believe it. I resisted the urge to tell her I'd been discussing the name on tinternet
