Opinions on Freya .

I love the name Freya for my 4th girl, due very soon. It's popular in my area but my extended family in the Manchester area seem to never have heard of it and all of them laughed at it. Opinions needed.

Pretty but increasingly popular I'd say.

I know a Freya and her sister is Eden.
Freya and the Scandinavian gods are getting a look in these days - Must be the ABBA revival / Mamma Mia.

Very pretty - a name that suits all ages as well

I think its a very pretty name but is quite popular now ( i only know 2 though ).

No no no! Freya is so over popular now there will be at least two others in her class. Don't do it!

When I was pregnant I was always being told 'If it's a boy you can't call it X' or 'If it's a girl you can't call it Y'. I've always loved the name Freya and if you like it you should use it, names are popular for a reason but if it bothers you that there might be a lot of other Freyas then think again.

Apparently it was 25th most popular girl's name last year, only slightly more popular than my daughter's name but I don't know any little girls called the same thing as her and no-one else we know does (yet!). Wouldn't bother me if I did though. Just wouldn't have named her that if a family member or close friend already had the name.

Lovely but in NZ it's a brand of bread - so don't consider emigrating.

Almost called DD Freya but decided against it as i had a guinea pig by that name, and did not want her to grow up knowing she was named after a guinea pig.
but that was 10 years ago and it was not so popular.

not sure why people think it sounds lovely or why its a name to begin with. sounds like the word fray with an a at the end.

Stayinbed it's the name of a Norse goddess...

norse goddess of love and war.
i have one. no-one had ever heard of it, and said 'eh? what?' when we told them her name.
3 months after we had her, a newsreader called her daughter freya and that was it - suddenly every other mother was having one.
that said, as we got there first we haven't had any in the same class or even school, but i gather there are a fair few following.
i still love it though.
called dc2 by a reasonably popular name because i liked it. we've not doubled up on that in a class yet either, so luck is so far on our side!
dc3 also still a one and only in the class, so i'd say if you like it, go for it.
we're none of us as individual as we like to think we are lol.
