So what do you think and would you say Ur-sula or Ur-shula?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
umberella · 05/10/2008 21:25

ur-sula. lovely, i really like this name.

EdithsMummy · 05/10/2008 21:26

Ur-sula. I went to the Ursuline school and we pronounced it -suline not -shuline.

Buda · 05/10/2008 21:26

Ur-sula

I like it.

Worked with one in Dublin years ago and have liked it since.

EyeballsintheSky · 05/10/2008 21:27

Edith, you weren't in Wimbledon, were you?

I love Ursula, definitely Ur-sula

winegoddess · 05/10/2008 21:27

Ur-sula. Doesn't conjure up really cuchie coo images but could be one of those names that you hear being called out and then think 'why didn't i call my daughter that?'

RhinestoneCowghoul · 05/10/2008 21:27

One of my best friends is called Ursula - it's a great name (she pronounces it ur-shula tho, just to be contrary...)

skidoodle · 05/10/2008 21:29

Ur-sula

Lilymaid · 05/10/2008 21:31

Another victim of the Ursulines, here. Oh it is quite a nice name I suppose (better than St Angela) as long as you don't take the story of the thousand(s) of virgins too literally.

raindropsonroses · 05/10/2008 21:33

I think of this Ursula
sorry
I would say ur soo la. No 'H' sound.

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/10/2008 21:44

I had an aunt Ursula..but it makes me think of Ursulines

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/10/2008 21:45

or DH Lawrence

EdithsMummy · 05/10/2008 21:51

Eyeballs - no, Ilford! Are you an Ursuline girl, too, then? think there's a few of us knocking around!

WendyWeber · 05/10/2008 21:54

I know an Ursula - her dad is a DH Lawrence scholar - she is def pronounced Urshula.

Tommy · 05/10/2008 21:57

lovley - have heard it pronounced both ways. I think I prefer Ur-sula although a good friend of mine is Ur-shula or Ursh more usually which is not very pretty for a baby girl!

EyeballsintheSky · 05/10/2008 23:00

Yes, the good old Ursuline Convent - dodgy nuns included! Bless 'em

TheBlonde · 05/10/2008 23:11

I love it

serin · 05/10/2008 23:18

Gorgeous, I was in Ursula Hall when I was a student and have loved the sound of it ever since, but didn't go with our surname.

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 05/10/2008 23:18

Watch it, raindrops

Tinker · 05/10/2008 23:20

Like it. Think I'd pronounce it both ways.

Plonker · 06/10/2008 23:52

Have heard it pn both ways. My instinct would be to say Ur-sula.

It reminds me of the sea witch also, sorry.
