I fell in love with this name after watching Pan's labyrinth last night .

FairLadyRantALot · 29/09/2008 12:56

I quite like the name Odette though...now that is a pretty name

UnquietDad · 29/09/2008 12:58

Ed Balls's sister is called Ophelia.

Not really.

My neice is named Opelia and although I think its a pretty name I can't get away from the Hamlet association and think perhaps naming your child after a character who goes insane and ultimately drowns herself isn't perhaps the best choice.

lemonadesparkle · 29/09/2008 13:07

Also agree with previous posters that Odette and Cordelia are far prettier and less troublesome in association.

Imnotok · 29/09/2008 13:15

Dp is saying no way to the name anyway .
He did the shouting your child in a crowded place experiment and has refused point blank to use it . Bugger.

...I quite like the Italian/Iberian spelling. But only if you're of Portuguese/Spanish/Italian descent. Otherwise it just looks like you're trying an 'original' twist on the name.

LOL Imnotok, DP was saying last night what a lovely name it was after we watched Pan's Labyrinth. He was not so keen when I explained who Ophelia was.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 03/10/2008 18:43

Ophelia is a gorgeous name but don't do it - naming your child after the most famous suicide in literature is not a good idea

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 03/10/2008 18:44

Cordelia doesn't come to the best ending either it has to be said.....better than regan or goneril though
