Shit its me again....

Still undecided...getting to the tearful tearing my hair out stage....

DP not liking Florence but i really do.

Not enjoying peoples negative faces and comments when i say we are thinking we'll probably call her Olive, which i really like myself and DP set on. Just can't help that others putting me off.

Any thoughts on Florence v's Olive??

How about Ines? (too much like Iris maybe)

OrmIrian · 25/09/2008 14:44

Like.

My granny was Florence.

JodieG1 · 25/09/2008 14:45

I love Florence, it's my dd's middle name and is beautiful imo. She was named after my nan who died of cancer when I was 15.

frazzledoldbag34 · 25/09/2008 14:45

Flora is gorgeous.
Nicer than olive IMO anyway.

go with Olive, it's the name you both like, and I love it, I think it's a beautiful name, not that I dislike Florence but Olive is lovely

LavenderTea · 25/09/2008 15:11

Florence yes absolutely. It's beautiful. (my dh doesn't think so either though

Olive absolutely no. Just reminds me of Olive Oil.

Missybaby · 25/09/2008 15:20

olivesmum , go for olive if you both love it. you'll never please everyone! you'll always get half of MNers in favour and half not .

FWIW, if a name FEELS right and you don't give a monkeys what people think, then THAT'S the right name for you. Good luck, been there, very stressful!

doyouknowwhoIamyet · 25/09/2008 15:25

I love Florence, also Constance (Connie)

livvyliv · 25/09/2008 15:32

I know an Iris whose sister is call Tess.I like Tessa as well

PeppermintPatty · 25/09/2008 15:45

I heart florence.

It was on our shortlist for DD.

loobylu3 · 25/09/2008 16:57

I like both Olive and Florence.
Not too helpful- sorry!
Florence is more classic and elegant IMO but Olive is more trendy and alternative. I would tend to rate Iris as slightly trendy and alternative too (although both are also old fashioned) so perhaps these go together better.
Have you considered:

Violet
Clementine/ Cleo
Clara
Cecily
Pearl
Mabel
Maude
Elsie
Eliza
Bryony
Adelaide (Ada)

Also like Flora as above or Fleur and Tess(a)

God luck choosing!

where i live florence is another name for your undercarriage iykwim, so i cant really get past that.
what about Freya

annasmami · 25/09/2008 17:17

I like them both but would chose Olive as its a beautiful name that probably won't be shortened. The short forms of Florence aren't that attracive, in my opinion.

But, more importantly, tastes are different and you're never going to please everyone... Go with what you and dh like!

annasmami · 25/09/2008 17:18

And Flo means flea in German

pointydog · 25/09/2008 17:24

Florence is terrible. Olive slightly less so

Countingthegreyhairs · 25/09/2008 17:38

Oh I love Florence (not keen on Olive) and love Maude that someone mentioned ...

Lots of Florence's over here (Belgium) but with strong emphasis on the "ence" ....very elegant I think ...

have you decided yet?

I have a Florence, we wanted to shorten it to Florrie or not at all, but she gets called Floss now and again, quite sweet hearing her 3yr old sister shouting Flowence. The elder is Eleanor, mainly because we wanted to shorten it to Nell, never have, she just doesn't look like one.
All that because we wanted Maud, and everyone took the mick. Wish we'd just done what we wanted. Ignore everyone else. Have a list and decide when you meet.
