Is this name too similar to family name?

Have always loved the name Alicia (A-lee-see-a) for a DD. My niece's name is Alice. Would you use it? Honest opinions please.

I don't think it's too similar, no. What's the age difference between them? Are there a few family members who are very likely to get confused? As you've always loved the name Alicia it would be a shame not to have it for your own dd.

Not sure if grandparents would get confused or not. Age gap is 8 years.

i'd use it - don't worry about grand parent confusion it's inevitable as they get older anyway

MamaG · 25/09/2008 10:24

in our family we have cousins called :-

Alice & Alex (age gap 8 years)
Emma & Emily (age gap 10 years)

Only confusion is at family parties when someone sayhs "Alice" and Alice & Alex both say "yes?" but it just makes them laugh.

The younger ones think its fab that they're linked to their "big" cousins

~Why not ask Alice's mum if she minds? Bet she'd be flattered more than anything

I agree with MamaG that you should ask Alice's parents first. If it's going to really upset them, I wouldn't. Otherwise, go for it!

Im not sure I would use it tbh as there are so many names out there to choose from. Maybe use Alicia as a middle name. I really liked Lacey but my sil has just had a Gracey so I have given up that name.
Just my opinion though

my cousins daughter is Alexia and we used Alexandra nn Lexie 6yrs afterwards, they do live in another country and we only see them about once a year though

just ask and see what they say

Bubbaluv · 25/09/2008 16:10

Ask her parents and see if it would bother them. If not, go for it!

An ex teacher of dd's had this name spelt - Elissa

Thanks for replies. Am seeing brother and SIL this weekend so maybe a good time to mention it. Still feel unsure!
