I think Olive and Iris are lovely names and go together beautifully. Both are elegant, classic and enduring, IMHO.

AbbeyA · 27/09/2008 22:24

Olivia is pretty. I just think Olive oil and Popeye!

Twiga · 27/09/2008 22:43

It's my name and I love it - much less commonly used than Olivia. Never met another one my age, only other Olive I know is my Nanna. Don't think the Olive Oyl thing is a prob as Popeye etc really not in vogue anymore so not likely to come up from her peers, only daft adults that feel a need to comment . For those keen on the meaning of names although listed as a plant name it's also closely associated with "peace" which I think is nice.

Registered our beautiful girl yesterday as Olive Belle, we were still debating over it on way to town but decided it was what we liked that matters. Now its official i have no regrets i'm loving having my little Olive.

So cute when dd1 says it too.. sounds like 'olis'... sweet!

Thanks for everyones opinions on Olive esp those who loved it of course

Olive Belle is a beautiful name. Congratulations.

Perpendicular · 27/09/2008 23:00

Brilliant! Well done - you made the right decision. It's a wonderful name.

Twiga · 27/09/2008 23:09

Belle goes well with it - congrats on your wee one!

Just a quick comment on it being an old lady name - my mum had that comment when she named me 30 years ago, I think it prob wasn't the most pop name then either - one mw said to her "but she's a baby and it's not a baby's name". I think when I'm old and grey it'll be nice to have a proper old lady name - just can't get my head round say a 90 yr old Kylie (no offence to anyone).

TheWoodWithinTheWall · 28/09/2008 00:00

Olive is a really great name.

lou33 · 28/09/2008 01:10

like it, i know a beautiful little 6 yr old of that name

minkersmum · 28/09/2008 12:16

Thank you everyone, i'm loving it now, so glad we went with it instead of the safe option.

She's a wee dolly, loving having a newborn again, hectic as it is...

Many congrats on choosing a beautiful name! Olive is a fab and those who didn't like it initially will definitely come round!

I think Olive was the school cook for the The Baskstreet kids.

I like it, but would only use it as a middle name (dd1's middle name is Rose)

Agree with other poster - Olivia is tedious and Olive is cool.

Have an Olive on my street, with little sister Ivy. Nice names, imo.
