Is Araminta too posh?

Sorry to those to those who don't like the posh/chav threads, but I really need to know honestly.
Araminta has been tentatively on my list for a while now, surely in this day and age it is safe for non upper class people to use?
would appreciate your thoughts.

Sorry didn't even know it was a name - posh or otherwise. I have heard of Amarantha, the Greek name though.

GordonTheGopher · 23/09/2008 12:30

Never heard of it. I think it's quite pretty.

branflake81 · 23/09/2008 12:30

Yes. Far too pompous, imho.

Nbg · 23/09/2008 12:31

I love it and Minty for short.

witchandchips · 23/09/2008 12:31

I wouldn't it is the still the name that people chose when they neeed a ridculously posh girl's name for an anecdote.

Chequers · 23/09/2008 12:34

I don't like it much, prefer Arabella which is also quite posh IMO.

Megglevache · 23/09/2008 12:35

No, it's too silly

Nbg · 23/09/2008 12:38

Eurghh, really Sober?
Thats ruined it for me now.

Arabella is lovely too.

Sycamoretree · 23/09/2008 12:39

It's too posh, and Minty is just Yuck. I think of a posh girl with no brains prancing around on her pony.

peasholme · 23/09/2008 12:41

It was the name of the awful heroine of BBC children's tv series The Moondial.

onceinalifetime · 23/09/2008 12:44

No sorry, the head of Jimmy Choo, Tamara Mellon's daughter is called Araminta and there are numerous interviews where precious 5yo Minty has already got a designer wardrobe, her own high heels, yapping dog, etc.

anorak · 23/09/2008 12:45

I agree you should be able to use any name you like regardless of social class. However I think you will lay yourself open to people taking the piss all the time.

Megglevache · 23/09/2008 12:46

Minty Mellons

Oh god that is a porn name or what! Worse almost than Piloh Shitt!

devonsmummy · 23/09/2008 12:48

I like it - never heard of one in real life. when i was younger I loved the Moondial with the character Minty and made a mental note of the name for future DD.

largeginandtonic · 23/09/2008 12:50

I like it, not 'Minty' though.

Ariella very sweet, i met one at my sil wedding last year. They were posh

largeginandtonic · 23/09/2008 12:52

Meggle!

Am campaigning for Dorothy atm, Dulcie and Dolly a close lead

Sorry for hijack.

OrmIrian · 23/09/2008 12:54

Not too posh, just not nice. Sorry.

How about Amalthea?

mazzystar · 23/09/2008 12:56

i think it depends hvw posh you are.

do you shop at lidl or waitrose [or do you grow your own produce on your estate]?
do you eat cucumber sandwiches regularly?
is she likely to be presented to the Queen, or is she mvre likely to be in Fueteventura on her 18th birthday?

I think I quite like it in a novelty posh kind of way

Megglevache · 23/09/2008 12:58

LG&T

Fab of course you have marvellous taste- you did know dd was very almost one of your names but we call her Queenie now.

Next dd (if we ever) will be Dot or Hetty and I won't be asking what people think of it on here

Don't forget to add Isadora in there somewhere too.

largeginandtonic · 23/09/2008 13:05

Isadora is still there...

One of the chickens is Hetty, along with Penny, Pru, Maggie and Gerty.

I need a Dot. DH is whinging about it. He goes off to sea for 8 months when she is born so will wait till he has gone before registering her and blaming very hormonal self

Love Queenie

largeginandtonic · 23/09/2008 13:06

No i am not asking either

Bit like owning up to having a Fresco Bloom highchair worth £240...

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/09/2008 13:26

It's a lovely name, but yes, it is reasonably posh.

pamelat · 23/09/2008 13:34

Nice name but it tries far too hard. You would have to send her to private school
