Violet , Greta, Clemmie or Romilly?

We have two girls already, and are struggling for a name for DC3 if a girl...

What do you think of these names? Any preferences? We're stuck.

Greta would be short for Marguerite.
Clemmie for Clementine, of course!
Violet as I love flower names.
Romilly - perhaps Lily for short.

Our possible middle names are Emmeline, Claudia and Ottilie.

Obviously Clementine Emmeline is one to avoid

DD1 one cries whenever we says the baby will have one of these names - she wants to call it Leaf Pie

I like your taste..

Greta - love this but I don't like Marguerite. I'd use Margaret on the bc. Margot, Maggie and Greta are all lovely.

Clemmie / Clementine - I like the style of it, and I would expect the mother of a Clementine to have good taste, generally, but yet, I just don't like the sound of this name!
Violet - I like this, it's the grown up flower name. Villy for short?
Romilly - I love this, despite Romilly Street!! It's unusual, but at the same time, it's very 'of the moment' and it is very close to Emily with an R at the start. I still like it though.

I'd go for Margaret/Greta first choice
Violet second, nn Villy
Romilly no nick name in 3rd.

Instead of Clementine what about Christabel? It's less whiney but has the same Victorian crispness (iywim)

Hazel is another lovely suggestion from somebody else.

ZZZen · 24/01/2009 09:30

Of those I only like Violet

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 09:32

They're all very pretty names. As are the middle names. Clementine is my favoruite I think.

Nancy66 · 24/01/2009 11:42

I love all your choices. Think they're all lovely names: classic and feminine and different enought but not daft.

I think Violet is probably my favourite followed by Clemintine. Romilly would be my least favourite as it's a bit masculine sounding.

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 24/01/2009 12:00

I like Greta the best.

Ronaldinhio · 24/01/2009 12:03

clemmie and romilly are lovely

BonsoirAnna · 24/01/2009 12:05

Clementine/Clemmie DEFINITELY. Fabulous name.

BonsoirAnna · 24/01/2009 12:05

I think my hypothetical DD2 is called Clementine Alice...

branflake81 · 24/01/2009 12:25

None of them, to be honest but especially NOT Violet which I just find gross. Sorry.

ZZZen · 24/01/2009 20:44

Not sure why everyone likes Clementine so much. Mind you in German it is a fruit - tangerine, so maybe that's why I'm finding it such an odd choice, bit like calling your dc banana ...

nkf · 24/01/2009 20:46

I think only Violet is nice. It seems to crop up a lot on MN. Is it a bit voguish?

castille · 24/01/2009 20:48

I love Clementine. It's DD1's middle name and sometimes I wish we'd put it first.

DD2 had an edible middle name too!

ZZZen · 24/01/2009 20:49

ah come on now spill the beans - what is this other edible middle name?

devouring curiousity emoticon

ZZZen · 24/01/2009 20:51

argh I can spell, really I can

Still want to know the name though

GrimbleTheResourceful · 24/01/2009 20:52

clementine and violet, both lovely.

castille · 24/01/2009 20:53

It's Madeleine, a French butter cake. Yum.

ZZZen · 24/01/2009 20:54

ah yes we had yummy French pink Madeleines in a Chrsitmas hamper this year. Very nice.

Bluestocking · 24/01/2009 21:00

I've just been reading the collected letters between the Mitford sisters and I am struck by the fact that Jessica Mitford (my favourite) was married to Esmond Romilly who was thought to be the natural son of Winston Churchill, whose wife was called Clementine.
Re the names on your list, I only really like Clementine as a first name.

ZZZen · 24/01/2009 21:01

I like that. Could be the Mitford Code and we could get rich predicting the future on it maybe

Bluestocking · 24/01/2009 21:05

Oh yes, ZZZen, do you want to join me in founding a sinister Mitford cult?

ZZZen · 24/01/2009 21:06

yes count me in on that! Only other thing I'd be doing is the ironing

Rolf · 24/01/2009 21:06

I like Greta and Marguerite.

Like Clementine and had it on my list for DD2 but I have dodgy sinuses and kept thinking "Phlegmy Clemmy"

Like Violet, again it was on our list, but after dealing with my very feisty 3 year old, I couldn't help seeing it as "Violent".

Like Romilly, Like Lily but when I suggested it DH kept saying "Big Lil".

DH and I have big problems agreeing on girls' names

dinny · 24/01/2009 21:06

is it Clemen-TEEN or Clemen-TINE?

castille · 25/01/2009 09:39

Mine is a ClemenTEEN, partly because she is half French but mostly because I prefer it to ClemenTYNE.
