A harsh name

EachPeachPearMum · 16/09/2008 20:15

Thanks mamakim!

What about Margot?
Eleanor, but might be a little too much like Eleanor Rigby.
Felicity
Elizabeth

Am struggling for names this time round myself...

MaryMungo · 16/09/2008 20:50

Good time to point out that centuries ago Agnes was pronounced, and often spelled, "Annis", a name I like very much

janeite · 16/09/2008 20:59

Eachpeach - your Astrid is utterly beautiful.

Mamakim - mmm I agree that it's not quite "right" with Riley. Agatha sounds better, although I'm less fond of it.

Amanda?
Abigail?
Annabelle?
Annie?
Estelle?
Eva?

Is Geraldine completely a no-no these days?
Geraldine Riley sounds really distinguished!

Thanks janeite - she definitely gets her looks from DH!

frazzledoldbag34 · 17/09/2008 10:55

EachPeach - I too have just had a look at the pic of your Astrid. She is soooo gorgeous she might just convert me into being a fan of the name!! She's beautiful.

PuppyMonkey · 17/09/2008 10:58

Sorry - especially to those who've already used this name - but Astrid sounds so cold to me. Agnes much nicer.

seeker · 17/09/2008 11:09

What about Stella? Means about the same as Astrid and you don't hear it much these days.

LuLuBai · 17/09/2008 12:39

I beg to differ - I keep meeting little Stellas. 3 newborn in the last year. Think it is the MaCartney effect. Or their parents drink a lot of beer....

EachPeachPearMum · 17/09/2008 20:05

frazzled thank you! I think she's gorgeous, but of course all mums think their children are beautiful.

seeker - Stella means 'Star' but Astrid means divine beauty. Astra would be the equivalent, though I think that's quite nice .

Mamakim I asked DH about the name going with your surname, and he actually thinks it has a real ring about it, though of course he could just be biased

FairLadyRantALot · 17/09/2008 20:58

Hm, not that keen on Astrid...however, tehre was a recent thread and someone with inside danish knowledge said it would , in danish, be prononced Astree ( I am sure it was...well, somewhat softer anyway)....and that made it sound a nicer name....

however, definitely preer it over Agatha, which I really don't like!

Swedes · 17/09/2008 21:00

Astrid is a terrible idea.

FairLadyRantALot · 17/09/2008 21:07
