Gabriel - is it cruel?

Even though I'm convinced bump is a girl, we want a back up boys name. I like either Noah or Gabriel.
My husband favours Gabriel, but almost everyone we talk to says it's cruel, as he would be mercylessly teased "Gay-boy" at school etc.
What do you all think?

DS started at nursery today. There are three Noahs in his class. Two Thomases, two Bens and three Noahs.

at three Noahs in one class. There was one at pre-school and one, I think, at school now. Round here, though, all Bens are 12 or older.

It's a gorgeous name. Best Friend's son is Gabriel and it's lovely.

NO! Fgs, it's in the top 50 now I think, so it is popular enough for people to just accept it 100% for the name that it is, and not to look for, or notice similarities to the word Gay.

Gabe is a gorgeous nn. Love that. I find Noah a bit feminine on the other hand. Kind of a weak sound and Gabriel is a good strong sound.

My friend's son is Gabriel and there are a few in my DCs' school, so I don't think it's teaseworthy. Might have been in the 80s when it was very rare.

This is the name that we have chosen if our bump is gonna be a boy. Wasn't sure about it myself at first (dh's suggestion), but I now love it and couldn't imagine using another name.

I have a Gabriel so I am biased, but the one thing thst has driven me mad since he was born that some people can't get it through their thick skulls that Gabriel is NOT pronounced Gah-bree-elle!!!!!

If you name him Gabriel you will definitely be politely correcting people through gritted teeth that his name is Gabriel, not Gah-bree-elle!!!

It's my fave boy's name in the whole world.

Gabriel is lovely. It suits both a small child and a grown man.

Please not Noah, there is a horrid Noah in DD's class and an acquaintance of mine has a Noah I don't care for either.

Dashiell (pronounced Dash-ul), as in Dashiell Hammett, the American author who wrote The Maltese Falcon, among other novels.

Thinking of Dashiell Alexander Reed, or Dashiell Benjamin Reed. We like the flow.

And we can call him Dash for short! I just think it sounds cute for a boy and cool for a man.

Hopefully everyone will hate it and it will stay unknown and unused!

I love it! Dash is a great nn. I'd go for Dashiell Benjamin, but if you did Dashiell Alexander, then DAR would be a cool nn as well!!!!

I love both Noah and Gabriel, still doesn't matter now it's a pink one

I like Gabriel but I'm not sure that I would use it. I don't like Noah.
