I am due to have a baby girl in 3 weeks and have always liked Martha but my husband isn't that keen. We have also considered names such as Harriett, Amelia and Evie but can't seem to make a decision. Would appreciate any views.

Thanks

Zombie. Little Martha Iris. Evie. Harriet or Amelia would be around 7 or 8 years old now

Terrifiedandregretful · 25/05/2016 12:49

Martha Iris is lovely. I much prefer it to your other choices.

bombayflambe · 25/05/2016 12:55

Both lovely names but not together. You need a consonant after Martha (I don't know why but you just do).

Martha Jane
Martha Ruth
Martha Clare

...and apparently only one syllable (I don't know why again).

bombayflambe · 25/05/2016 12:55

Gah! Zombie, sorry

septembersunshine · 25/05/2016 14:31

It's a beautiful name but I think I like Iris Martha better. Or even more then that Iris Amelia - Amelia softens Iris I think and flows really well. Martha sounds quite heavy. I don't dislike it but I prefer your other choices bar Harriet (which is my irrational hate girls name. Just me I think because it's generally really well received on here). I just find it quite masculine and hard and I really dislike all the shortened forms. Good luck op!

LadyAntonella · 25/05/2016 14:31

I love it!

Also love Harriet Iris, Martha Harriet and Iris Martha or Iris Harriet. Iris is one of my absolute favourite girl names.

SpareCrust · 25/05/2016 14:34

I think Martha is lovely and I know a beautiful Iris!

Also love Harriet, Miranda and Maude.

Oops! OP, is she Martha Iris?Amelia? Harriett? Don't leave us in suspense GrinGrin

Martha Iris does sound like she could be 90 years old but nothing wrong with that! My great-aunt was Martha and my grandmother was May, two names which are very much in vogue again now. They would have been born around 1915. I like both names. I come across a lot of baby Martha's in London but if that doesn't bother you it's very nice. DS has the name of a 90 year old man in Germany where DH is from (although it's not considered grandad-like at all here) but that doesn't bother us at all.

SpareCrust · 28/05/2016 10:48

I think it has all come around again and Martha and Iris have become current again now. I know a beautiful 15 yr old Iris and three girls called Martha and Marta all aged between 3 and 9 years.

AppleSetsSail · 28/05/2016 10:50

I love Martha, but to my ear Martha Iris doesn't flow nicely. I don't like 2 x 2 syllables I think.

AppleSetsSail · 28/05/2016 10:51

Oh - a zombie! Exciting.

SpareCrust · 28/05/2016 11:01

Yes May is lovely too!

ThePartyArtist · 29/05/2016 23:05

Martha Iris is lovely!

Martha Iris is a beautiful name, very classy sounding. My children all have very unusual names, and sometimes they don't thank me for it! But I think Martha Iris isn't common but it's not too unusual sounding xx
