Josie? Brontë? Greta? Would anybody be so kind as to comment?

Recently settled on Miranda as a first name for dd2, due in November. After advice from other MNs decided only to have one middle name, and that we liked Vivienne.

However, I've since also fallen in love with Brontë (have started re-reading Wuthering Heights again, big mistake), and dh has said he really likes Greta and Josie.

The only connotation I have of Josie is a character in a children's book when I was little. But is it too old-fashioned and not in a good way? Greta is gorgeous, especially with the Garbo association, but not sure it 'goes' with Miranda. And is Bronte too surname-ish? Oh, the quandry.

Any opinions out there? Thanks!

Miranda is gorgeous. It was one of the few names dp and I both liked for dd1 but it didn't "go" with our surname unforunately.

I'm not normally fond of the surname used as first name thing but actually I think Miranda Bronte sounds really sweet.

I don't like Greta much and it goes less well with Miranda imho.

Josie is sweet too.

Josie is too nicknamey for a second name, I think.

Why not stick with Bronte as it has some meaning for you?

Bronte is chavvy, often pn Brontaaaaaygedere. No, then to Catherine/ Cathy or Nelly/Eleanor?

Imo Miranda is lovely. Avoid Tempest as a mn.

I would keep to your first choice. I hate Bronte. Greta doesn't go with Miranda. Josie is a nickname; Miranda Josephine would be preferable.

I don't think Josie or Greta go with Miranda (which I LOVE, btw ), and Bronte sounds chavvy, sadly.

But listen - this is your baby - go with what you want, and ignore the views of strangers on some discussion board. Hope all goes well

Miranda is a beautiful, classic, Shakespearian name. The others are in a totally different style and I personally don't like any of them.
I would go for something more classic with Miranda if I were you!

I don't get the chavvy conotations of Bronte. There was one at my (boarding) school who went on to become head girl. She wasn't chavvy at all. Her parents were academics. I think it works quite well as a middle name after Miranda. Greta just doesn't sound right and Josie (as someone else said) is a nickname.

Miranda Vivienne really works very well. I much prefer it to Bronte, but there is of course the Jolie-Pitt problem. Even though she chooses fairly off-beat names for the kids she seems to cause a surge in popularity (look at Shiloh on the name charts)

Greta to me sounds like an old lady's name, sorry.

Josie is lovely. Josie was in my girls list. I also have a friend called Josie, she is 21 and it isn't short for anything. I love it.

Don't like Miranda, Bronte (not chavvy, just naff) or Greta. Josie is my mum's name and that's the nicest.

I have a baby family member called Gretta to avoid the Greeta fiasco that the spelling Greta brings. She's a gorgeous baby, suits it.

Both Brontes I've come across have been highly scallivated.
