Don't you think if we all chose solid traditional names

The world would be a more boring place?

30 years ago I choose a unusual name for DS1, had reactions that it was a 'silly, and to American' name.
It would affect him as he was growing up.
I loved it and stuck to it.

It is now a common name, and became common very shortly after he was born (a TV character had the name)

DS2's name was more traditional, but not common, DD's name was a place name, spelt wrong (the ultimate crime!

Yes i think it would be boring if everyone was Matthew, Edward, Jack, James,Lucy or Megan. Im not saying there is anything wrong with these names just saying there is alot around.

It would certainly be a less funny place.

To be honest some of the unusual names are now replacing the solid traditional names in the top 20 names so you are more likely to come across a Bailey than you are to meet a Peter!!

hw2004 that is so true, DS1s name is Lee, it was a real 'different' name when we chose it.

My Dad and Grandma hated it.

Then came Six million Dollar Man, and every second boy seemed to be called it.

Now nobody would bat a eyelid.
