Hello all... I need some help. My DH and I have settled on calling our ds Legend Cougar or Cougar Legend. Which do you like better?

The only other option we will think of is Xander. Thanks for your help.

Bernard!

FabioThatFirggingCat · 31/07/2008 09:01

In America, they pronounce it B'naaarrrrd which isn't as good as Bernud, is it misdee?

What about Rattlesnake Myth?

zippitippitoes · 31/07/2008 09:06

the only reason celebs call their kids daft names is because they want them to inherit the value of gthe celebs celebrity so they will profit from it by always being known and remembered

so everyone knows peaches geldof

it can only be one person with the name peaches

for average dull and stupid people to do it there is no gain just a lot of pain...mostly of the sniggering variety

cremolafoam · 31/07/2008 09:09

there are lots of other nice cat names out there
like Jaguar or Panther
I think Cougar is one of those names that might go rancid don't you?

Babstefani · 31/07/2008 09:13

I think that Cougar Legend Smith has quite a ring to it. I suppose fabio would rather that we call him Xenophobe?

More than sniggering, zippi. If my DD ever brought home a spotty 16-year-old boy and said Mum, this is my boyfriend Legend Cougar, I would laugh so hard I would wee on the floor. And then she would be too embarrassed ever to bring him over again, so problem solved.

HereComeTheGirls · 31/07/2008 09:14

He could have a great career in WWF without having to change his name!

Babstefani · 31/07/2008 09:15

Oh, and zippiti I thought the "middle-class" sensibility on MN would preclude you from being so base as to deem us average dull and stupid, cheers!

I like Xander by the way.

I think that crazy, distinctive names work best when tempered a little by a more conventional name (i.e. the John Cougar one). The two together result in a clash. A sensory overload.

oh i dont have any middle class sensibilities at all

Babstefani · 31/07/2008 09:18

True nined, teens always choose who their parents would have them choose. Oh and we in the black community don't get spots very often. I said Cougar not Leopard.

What about Leon? still has a cat in it but sounds far more sophisticated (I think )

Drop the Legend bit, though. My sister was named after my mother, and my mother after her aunt. The three of them absolutely HATED that name.

TwoBigNorks · 31/07/2008 09:25

James Legend is very nice... maybe...

Cougar is too closely linked to women and sex.

ninedragons · 31/07/2008 09:26

The penny has just dropped that HCTG meant World Wrestling Federation. I was thinking World Wildlife Foundation.

Works for either, actually.

HereComeTheGirls · 31/07/2008 09:29

Yes, he could open a wildlife park like the "Lion Man"..."Cougar Legend's big cat sanctuary"!!

minkychunky · 31/07/2008 09:31

Cougar is great I prefer to Xander

gagarin · 31/07/2008 09:34

Tbh if you really are from california then you have a very free rein with naming - as his kindergarten register will also be full of unusual names.

I mean Tiger Woods has made it big. And his real first names are Eldrick Tont .

So if Cougar is what you really want - and you can look your teenage son in the eye and tell him you chose the name because it suited him when he was born then do it!

seeker · 31/07/2008 09:34

Seriously - just think about how your ds will feel when he's older. You are naming a whole person, not a baby. Listen to the views on here - think that he will meet people like us all his life. And think again.

Babstefani · 31/07/2008 09:35

Thanks MinkyChunky... it's nice to have one positive comment.

ninedragons · 31/07/2008 09:35

Look, if you really are serious about this name, you have picked the wrong forum to discuss it on. The names currently up for discussion include Isabella, Sebastian, Martha and Emmeline. What would you think people would say

It is like going to deathmetalchat.com and asking who was better, Brahms or Stravinsky.

zippitippitoes · 31/07/2008 09:36

did you actually think you would get positive comments?

VictorianSqualor · 31/07/2008 09:36

Xander.
We have an Alexander who is sometimes called Xander as a nickname.

Cougar is horrid.

Only use legend if you have a normal first name.

Cougar Legend? Walt Disney pictures may pinch it...

Babstefani · 31/07/2008 09:37

I would be terribly sad if my child, with any name, met any of you in real life. Talk about a bunch of sad old cougars.... See ya, Maverick out!
