Suggestions for middle name to go with Sebastian?

After all my tooing and froing between names I still like Sebastian the best even though i'm not sure everyone agrees

Anyway, I have a short surname and i can't find anything to go as a middle name. I think Sebastian Henry goes well but Sebastian is a bit pretentious (maybe) and with Henry sounds worse. Thomas doesn't flow well and Alexander is way too long.

any ideas??

Luke

James

Matthew

I love both those names.

Sounds posh-ish but is such a good name. Would you use 'seb'?

Beanieb - Yes I would use Seb when he is a bit older and Sebby when he was a baby. I can really see him as baby Sebby which might sound a bit twee but love it!

Hercules? I know one and he's known as Hercy.....

Or Theo? sounds nice with Sebastian I think?

Also Henry, Louis,
James, ..... needs to be something short-ish as Sebastian is quite a mouthful.
Don't get me wrong though, I do like Sebastian. Bet he'll be a cutie!

Or what about Guy? not a fave of mine I must admit but sounds good with Sebastian methinks?

frazzledoldbag34 · 29/07/2008 20:22

Sebastian Guy. Yes, definitely.

beanieb · 29/07/2008 21:13

Sebastian Jack? or is that too Piratey?

Could you use Oliver or Francis?

hw2004 · 29/07/2008 21:38

Oliver James is my DS1 so can't use either of them unfortunately.

Sebastian Thomas???

Love Sebastian Jack actually but my surname is quite short and ends in 'k' so might sound slightly too hard but i quite like the piratey aspect

Ds2 was a month away from being a Sebastian Patrick.

We kept Patrick as his middle name, but decided against Sebastian at the last minute.

sannie · 30/07/2008 11:20

sebastian george

solo · 30/07/2008 11:24

Sebastian Peter. I don't particularly like the name Peter, but I quite like that ensemble.
What letter does your surname begin with? as that could influence your final decision and others that are giving you idea's here.

wheresthehamster · 30/07/2008 11:29

Sebastian Coe's middle name is Newbold according to Wiki. I'm sure whatever you choose will go better than that

Sebastian Louis.

VictorianSqualor · 30/07/2008 11:43

I was going to suggest James but then I see you have an Oliver James (that's my BiL's name too)

I love Rufus as a boys name and think it would go well, what about William? George? Marcus?

I have an Alexander but not sure if it's a bit long.

Saying that if we have a girl next time she will be Susannah Annabel Caroline X so I can't really comment on length!

hw2004 · 30/07/2008 12:43

My surname begins with W and ends in K (one syllable) - blimey might as well just tell you lol - so it's quite hard sounding.

I thought about Sebastian David last night which even though i'm not that thrilled with David I do think it goes nicely.

Sebastian George is nice - and Sebastian Peter.

hw2004, I think you are suffering with baby brain. Your surname does not end with a K

hw2004 · 30/07/2008 17:24

Ok Eleta 'KS' !!

I like James the best, but absent that what about (boring old) John, or maybe Charles? or Mark depending on the vowel sound in your surname.

actually, I think Sebastian quite lends itself to having a surname as a middle name. Is your maiden name a potential starter (assuming that your surname isn't your maiden name)?

hw2004 · 30/07/2008 17:34

My maiden name is Black so don't think it would work - lol. my mother's maiden name is Taylor but even though i like it as a surname not sure about it as a first/middle name at all???

OP posts:
legalalien · 30/07/2008 17:42

I quite like Taylor as a middle name following Sebastian actually. Only potential problem is that I think it might be used as a girl's name in the US from time to time (not at all sure why I think this). Wouldn't your mother be thrilled?

A friend of mine has "Harvey" as her middle name - her grandmother's maiden name - and is surprisingly attached to it.

solo · 30/07/2008 23:36

Sebastian Peter W ks I like that!

Bubble99 · 30/07/2008 23:47

George
