I've done my boy's name survey, now it is time for girls!!

what do you think? Middle name will be Anne after dh's ma.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cyteen · 26/07/2008 22:38

They're all a bit too wet for my liking.

Doobydoo · 26/07/2008 22:40

I would love to know what other peoples dcs are called, when they are so dismissive of other names!

ravenAK · 26/07/2008 22:42

Definitely Cecily (& Cecy as in Cecy Hall for short).

Failed to get either Cecily or Cecilia past dh

Connie - nope, sorry, but Constance is OK.

& Nancy too similar/derivative of Anne.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 26/07/2008 22:54

I like Cecily, but have got a slight lisp so it probably wouldn't have worked too well!

ninedragons · 26/07/2008 23:17

Sorry, I know this always happens when old names are revived, but Connies have bleach blonde hair, smoke Lambert & Butler and wear leopard-print swimming costumes on the Costa Del Sol.

Nancy and Cecily are both nice, though.

LaDiDaDi · 26/07/2008 23:46

I like Nancy best, then Connie and I like Cecily least but it goes with Anne better than either of the others.

LaDiDaDi · 27/07/2008 00:01

Just pinched a suggestion from another thread: Clarice?

AbbeyA · 27/07/2008 08:16

Nancy is a derivative of Anne, it is silly having them both, like having Margaret Peggy.
Cecily is quite nice but would be shortened. I don't like Connie.

Constance/Connie - I love! So pretty and feminine
Nancy - My dh wanted this and i vetoed it ...i have no idea why now!! Lovely
Cecily - I don't like this one.

Elk · 27/07/2008 11:47

Nancy seems to be gaining in popularity at the moment. I know 2 little girls called Nancy.

MrsMattie · 27/07/2008 15:42

Nancy is lovely. Connie - jury's out, can't decide if I like it or not. Hate Cecily - posh and pretentious.

myredcardigan · 27/07/2008 16:06

Nancy isn't for Anne as far as I know. I've known 3 Nancys. One was just Nancy and the other two were both Agnes.

I do like Connie though I'd have to call her Constance.

loobylu3 · 27/07/2008 19:28

I like Cecily the best (Is on my girl's shortlist near the top).

Connie and Nancy are also nice though

MakemineaGandT · 27/07/2008 20:22

mrs woolf - thanks for replying - I cut and pasted your link but it didn't work....

I can't find that level of info on the office for national stats website - only top 100 names. I'd really love to be able to look at the top 1000 plus percentage increases/decreases - can you try linking again?

Thanks ever so...

wow - thanks mrswoolf - I'm now trying to work out how to search the document....i.e. for a particular name - or do I have to scroll through the whole thing?!

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 27/07/2008 23:22

Nancy. That's lovely. Cecily too many Ss, and I can't remember the third name on your list, but it wasn't nice, I remember that!

thumbwitch · 28/07/2008 02:26

Nancy can be a derivative for both Ann(e) and Agnes apparently see this page

AbbeyA · 28/07/2008 07:50

I am exploring my family history and so far I have found a Nancy twice-both christened Ann.

Cies · 28/07/2008 08:12

I quite like Constance, shortened to Connie.

Cecily, or even better Cecilia, is nice.

Not keen on Nancy - sounds v old-fashioned. It makes me think of Nancy Drew and Nancy from Swallows and Amazons, as well as my step-grandmother.

hw2004 · 28/07/2008 15:09

Would definately go for Nancy - I love it.

I used to like Connie but reminds me of that little girl who was in Britain's Got Talent or the annoying one from Maria!!

nooka · 28/07/2008 15:24

Constance Anne would be nice, and Cecily Anne is pretty. Nancy Anne doesn't work for me even if Nancy wasn't a variation of Ann.
