I already have a Lily, and struggling to think of another girls name. But have come up with;

Elodie (Edie for short)
Belle
Hetty
Bella
Evie

I am feeling strong so honest opinions are welcome - I have already put Belle to the vote and faced the consequences

Many Thanks!!

I know an Elodie in real life (different spelling, but same name). She's called 'Bella' for short, for some reason.

Why not have Edith shortened to Edie? That's retro-chique, no?

Lilypink · 18/07/2008 21:00

Is Lily and Elodie said together a mouthful as dd is Lily? Husband says he is struggling with all the L's.

I like Belle, but not Isabelle. Dont' know why. Eve not Evie.

I like Edie and Edith, but Elodie, I hear L.O.D.

Hetty is not very nice imo, although I like Lottie so much, don't know why I dislike Hettie.

Lilypink · 18/07/2008 21:08

I love Lotty too but can't have it with Lily! This name game is tough eh?! Its so important is t get it right!

can't be bothered reading it all. what about rose to go with lily. or elodie rose

indiemummy · 18/07/2008 21:23

Lily & Bella
Lily & Edie
Lily & Hettie

Yes they are all lovely! Edie could be short for Eden as well which I think is cute.

Evie is popular... but still nice.

Lily and Sam are nice together too.

My dd is Ivy - all of your names were on our shortlist! I loved Bella or Isabel - but not Isabelle or Isabella - isn't it funny how a slight difference can affect how you feel about a name!

x

Lilypink · 18/07/2008 21:24

Rose is the middle name I am thinking of, but already have 2 Rose type names in my family inc my mum, so it is out as a 1st name.

I do think Elodie Rose is so pretty. Looks nice written down too.

elmoandella · 18/07/2008 21:25

melodie rose is nice too

Lilypink · 18/07/2008 21:29

Thanks indiemummy I reckon now its down to what the baby will suit..and I will prob choose something else - partic as I am not due to Sept. You are right about the slight change making all the difference, cos although I love Belle, I am really struggling with Bella, and now not so keen on Hetty, now I have seen Hettie

I love Ivy too though!

Really like them all but like Bella and Elodie the best. Really love Belle aswell! Dis people not like that. I really like names with Bel(le) and Bella in them. I have an Isabel.

elmoandella · 18/07/2008 21:35

i have a gabriella (ella)

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 18/07/2008 21:38

wHAT ABOUT Belle?

aRe you GOING to say Disney? I don't think Disney owns Belle the way they own Genevieve iykwim.

nooka · 19/07/2008 04:51

How can Disney "own" Genevieve? I think Arthurian legends. Nice long name for Evie though - a bit more distinctive.

Nancy66 · 19/07/2008 13:33

Think they are all lovely names - my only word of caution would be over Evie just because it is very popular.

LoopyLoz · 19/07/2008 13:40

Elodie/Edie - just lovely

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 19/07/2008 21:37

I mean own as in be strongly associated to.

The name is being used in the US by people who couldn't tell you what an Arthurian legend was. (check out babycenter.com girls names board)

But they do know that there's a Genevieve Barbie.

But it's a very pretty name imo.

nooka · 19/07/2008 22:45

I prefer Gwinevere/Gwinny personally, but although I now live in the US (and have a Barbie loving little girl) I hadn't made that association.

Elkat · 20/07/2008 20:10

Love Elodie - was a very strong contender on our list. As to your others, I like most of them, but agree with others that they need a fuller name and then use a nn.

For example, Belle/a could be Annabelle / Isabelle etc... hetty from Harriet? (Hatty might work better tbh) and so on.

Lilypink · 21/07/2008 20:41

Trouble is I am not keen on many of the longer names such as Harriet, Henrietta, Genevieve etc I kind of like annabelle - but already have an Isobel in the family. And my dd is Lily Mae - so she has the nn rather than Lilian

I am getting more and more keen on Hettie Rose or Elodie Rose.

I have been looking on nymbler its a fab site

jellybeans · 22/07/2008 11:23

i REALLY Like Evie and Elodie.

Twinkie1 · 22/07/2008 11:27

DD is a Harriet and some people call her Hettie for short - I hate it so does she!

Elodie (Edie for short) My Fave
Belle OK as long as pretty child/adult
Hetty - thoughts above
Bella - as Belle but fat child would remind me of Bella Emberg!
Evie - Nice

gladders · 22/07/2008 13:37

Had an Auntie Hetty and she was actually Esther - not Henrietta..... quite nice?

Lilypink · 25/07/2008 21:35

Had a chat with DH and I think we are going for Eva Rose (or if a boy Samuel Max). Eva not on our original list but not too dissimilar - Eva isn't that common is it? I looked at the top 100 list and it is number 52.

zwiggy · 25/07/2008 21:39

i love bella my niece is always called this although her full name is Isabelle. Hetty is good too, personally I think Elodie is a bit chav ( sorry)
Betty is ok and Evie too but a bit too cutesy / my baby is a toy, for my liking.
But that is just my opinion remember, and you don't know me and we might be entirely different so whatever you choose will be right.
