The only one I know is a 'Louie'
Love the name but agree with Fio about the Lewis thing

AbbeyA · 15/07/2008 16:35

I agree with the Lewis thing-why not do Lewis and avoid the confusion.

Sadly a lot of people will read it as Lewis, even if written Louis.

I have a Louis and nobody gets his name wrong. Louis is the standard spelling so go with that.

AbbeyA · 15/07/2008 17:00

The ones, that I have come across in school have problems! Even more so if people write them a party invitation or Chrismas card.I actually think it is quite nice but they will have a lifetime of explaining and spelling-unless it gets into the top ten of names.

You also get it the other way around. I called out the register in one school and got to Louis, he was very aggrieved and said that he was Lewis!

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 15/07/2008 18:18

I have a Louis. The name really pisses off my friend's autistic dc who always walks around saying "Lou-iss with an s not Lou-ee" every time we visit.

tommiles001 · 16/07/2008 07:05

Neither for me. Go for Luis, it's currently the most popular form of the name Louis

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 16/07/2008 08:32

That's America though. Where they always pronounce is Lewis (according to Louis Theroux).

lewis 16, Louis 60, Louie 95 There's also Luca which I like (but dh didn't). No Luis at all.

I'm surprised Harley's at 69, I don't know any Harley's. (sorry OT)

thumbwitch · 16/07/2008 09:56

Luis is Spanish, maybe that's why

bikerunski · 24/07/2008 15:03

I thought Louis was French (I went to a French school), Louie was the anglicised version of Louis, maintaining the Latin root and Lewis was Welsh?

I know a Harley. He's about 3.

Phoenix · 27/07/2008 21:00

My son is Lewis and one of my aunties always writes Louis - Its not the same name

Loads of people also say is that spelt with a L-e-w-i-s or L-o-u-i-s
