dh came up with this one today. We are really struggling with boys names. I would just like to ask for anyones opinions. Is it awful? Or do you like it?

It is cute as a pet name, but I wouldn't choose it as a given name. Also, can't stand the singer Sophie ellis-bextor & think her son is a Sonny!
It's funny how connotations or connections can put you right off a name or love it even more...

I taught a vile Sonny. Teachers have terrible times choosing names.

strawberryfields · 14/07/2008 21:14

I like it but I know lots of Sonnys

I like it. If this baby turns out to be a boy (unlikely) then we are naming him after my great grandad who was Sidney known as Sonny. Therefore his name would be Sidney but we would call him Sonny.

My tomboy daughter used to love being calles 'sonny' on the bus. Mind you, she was about 11 years old at the time.

Anyone hearing the name on the bus might think 'Sunny' but then.........

'Sunny Delight'
'Little ray of sunshine'

I really fancied Sonny in the Godfather films. I think I would've loved the name anyway but can't be sure.

totalmisfit · 15/07/2008 08:26

I think its OK as long as you also have a middle name. I think Sonny Brown sounds a little as though you couldn't think of an actual name. Definitely needs another name in there somewhere.

Lapsedrunner · 15/07/2008 08:35

No, no, no

ninedragons · 15/07/2008 08:40

Sorry, it sounds like the preface to a telling-off. "Now look here, sonny...."

Nancy66 · 15/07/2008 09:52

What about Sol?

fairy15 · 15/07/2008 10:51

love it! we nearly called ds2 it but went for bailey instead. i think its a proper name. you have to remember when they grow up there will be a lot of unusual names & modern names so can't see the problem with a middle aged man with it.

largeginandtonic · 15/07/2008 10:59

I like it!

FlirtyThirty · 15/07/2008 16:45

It's dreadful.
Just makes me think of Sonny and Cher!!

No that keen on Gabriel myself but far prefer it to Sonny!

Tortington · 15/07/2008 16:50

its completely shit

AbbeyA · 15/07/2008 16:57

Dreadful. Even worse at 70yrs than 40 yrs!

goingslowlyroundthebend · 15/07/2008 17:09

Lovely, we know siblings Sonny and Gabriel and they are cool kids

Eleta · 15/07/2008 19:39

Very diverse reactions! I think Cher as well.

Doesn't sound like a real name. I think everyone needs a proper name to see them through life. Jimmy Masterson is on the side of a white van.. James Masterson QC defending at the Old Bailey (but is still Jimmy to his friends)... you never know!

thisisyesterday · 16/07/2008 23:14

I really like Sonny. think it's a fab name

pointydog · 16/07/2008 23:19
