Larch ??

I have a cousin named Larch (her mother was a bit bats).

Larch has a daughter whom she named Willow, (which is more reasonable, I think).

Willow has just had a little girl and is determined to continue the tree theme with a selection of Ebony, Maple, Linden or Poplar.

My suggestions of Cherry, Hazel, Laurel and Apple were dismissed out of hand.

Any suggestions?

no, Rowan doesn't need a girl's version. Because it is a girl's name. Though it can be a boy's name too.

Lilac?

Hebe? (OK, more a shrubby plant but still on the garden theme)

I think Larch is lovely.

Linden is pretty.... Buddleah?? oh no, that's horrid!

Laurel?

I know, I just get fed up with people saying ''oh tis a boy's name, look at Rowan Atkinson '' and suggesting Rowanna.

Sigh, I'll fight my corner for my fictional daughter

I know a female Rowan

She has gorgeous red hair.

FrannyandZooey · 10/07/2008 18:46

Rowan means 'little red one'

Thanks, everyone--these are great suggestions which I will pass on to Larch and Willow.

It looks as though Linden may be the front runner, but out of your suggestions, personally I do like Lilac, Rowan, Cypress and Acacia.

Acer is one that hadn't occurred to me, partly because Acer is the make of my computer!!

I misread Larch as Lurch
