True, I know a fair few chloes and don't automatically think 'perfume'

Fimbo · 03/07/2008 14:55

Each to their own, I have traditional names for my dc which you would probably hate.

babblington · 03/07/2008 14:59

Kind of depends on your area too - where i live Isis is a fairly standard name - my DD goes to nursery with 2 Allegra's, a Julius, Tatiana, Atalanta, Astrid, etc etc - so Isis seems kind of pedestrian!

beaniesteve · 03/07/2008 15:01

lol - It does make me laugh that people might think I like the name Isis because I might think it's unusual, I don't. I just like it.

Where are you babblington? None of them in sleepy old Norfolk

babblington · 03/07/2008 15:03

Richmond, Dahhling. But then again, in dd1 first school class there are 3 Alices(!!) so I'm quite pleased she's the only Isis. In the year she was born (2004) there were 7 or so other Isis's born, and I've met one of them in Highgate!

babblington · 03/07/2008 15:06

incidentally Circe was also on our list, until i found out it is pronounced Kirk -ah

Mummy2Freya · 03/07/2008 15:50

LOL Fimbo, I'm also in Norfolk and cant imagine any Isis' turnin up!

ceeceeanne · 23/04/2009 20:24

Circe is pronounced sir see. I'm due in a week and Iris was top of list but I'm loving Isis.Anything else like these?

pranma · 23/04/2009 20:46

nomorechoc · 23/04/2009 21:25

Is it pronounced eye-sis?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 23/04/2009 21:27

was recently the name of a pre-op transexual on america's next top model.

feels clumsy to say the name Isis, but it looks nice.

EldonAve · 23/04/2009 21:28

Isn't it the name of the avent breast pump?

wolfear · 23/04/2009 21:45

Love it - It's on my list too

frisbyrat · 23/04/2009 21:55

Isis is an Egyptian Goddess (think she's Goddess of fertility??) - I think its very pretty

seeker · 24/04/2009 00:00

Just remember you aren't naming a baby - you're naming a woman.

Zorra · 25/04/2009 12:25

My friend's dd1 is called Isis, I think it's lovely

You could always use Isabella - meaning Isis the Beautiful - to give more options.

dustbuster · 25/04/2009 21:08

I love it. I have met a little girl called Isis who was incredibly cool.

kitsmummy · 25/04/2009 21:25

I know a 2004 Isis. Once I got over the shock I grew to really like the name

DesperateHousewifeToo · 25/04/2009 21:30

I know an Isis. 'Izzie' is her nn.

NotSoRampantRabbit · 25/04/2009 21:30

Isis is a very endearing and attractive character in Ian Banks' novel "Whit".

She escapes a strange Scottish cult and runs off to the real world. She is lovely and exports her slightly strange view of the world to modern day London.

Great novel. Quite like the name for that reason!

MsMargotBeauregarde · 25/04/2009 22:06

I like that it's an Egyptian Goddess!! but I don't much like the sound of it. too many Ss..
