I woud just like some thoughs on these names please. I know that for every person that likes a name there will be several that hate it but just interested.

For a girl - Lucy, Alice or Matilda?
Leaning towards Matilda at the mo. I like Lucy and Alice and think they are inoffensive names that not many people would dislike even if they wouldn't choose them or think they aren't very exciting. Matilda is becoming more popular I know, but I don't care as I've always liked the name.

For a boy - Morgan, Harry or Harrison?
Was always going to go with Harry but my Grandfather is Harry and i know it will cause a little bit of an issue as my other Grandfather will think baby had been named after him. Just wondered about Harrison as an alternative? Is it a chavvier version of Harry? I hate to use that expression, but eveyone seems to obsess about whether names are chavvy, so any thoughts welcome
Any thoughts at all on Morgan?

Lucy, Matilda and Alice, in that order of preference.... Lucy is such a warm sounding name!

Harry, Harrison and Morgan in that order - I'm afraid Morgan makes me think of the shop! I don't think Harrison is chavvy and chances are it'll get shortened to Harry anyway
HTH

of those names I think I prefer Matilda and Harry but not really keen on Matilda to be honest. I prefer Alicia to Alice ... not a fan of Morgan at all. I personally think Harrison is a bit chavvy (again, will probably get shot down for that comment!).

pointydog · 30/06/2008 21:49

I like Matilda, mainly due to Dahl character

Lucy is quite nice too. Then Alice.

Harry, Harrison. Don;t like Morgan

Hulababy · 30/06/2008 21:51

Girl: I love the name Matilda; that and Martha are my to fave names for girls at oresent. Lucy and Alice are both nice names too.

Boy: I like the name Harry. Not keen on Harrison or Morgan though.

onelittlelion · 30/06/2008 21:52

I like Lucy then Matilda
I love Harry

greenelizabeth · 30/06/2008 21:53

Matilda is very of the moment. I think Lucy and Alice are more classic. I can't decide between Lucy and Alice. I like them both more than Matilda, but I like Tilly and Milly more than Alice and Lucy!!

Morgan is ok, not crazy about it though. HATE it on a girl though, so Thank God you're not doing that to us. Harry is nice, safe, classic. Harrison is that word that I will get in trouble for using so I won't say it.

What about Edison instead of Harrison. Why does nobody ever do that? After the light bulb guy?! Better than Harrison imo.

Lucy

then Matilda
then Alice

Harry

then ...none of them

Quattrocento · 01/07/2008 00:15

I like all the girls names

Not sure about any of the boys names

thumbwitch · 01/07/2008 00:15

Don't like Morgan on boy or girl (I know a little girl called Morgan). Not keen on Harrison. Harry always good (but prefer Henry to get away from idea of naming after current Princes)
Like Matilda and Tilly (or even Matty) as a nn; like Alice; less keen on Lucy (loose-elastic, nn given to my best mate's sister called Lucy)

purpleflower · 01/07/2008 00:24

I love Lucy or Alice, less keen on Matilda.

Out of the boys Harrison is my favourite but shortened to H not Harry.

Eleta · 01/07/2008 07:12

Thanks. Going to drop Harrison and Morgan, was just clutching at straws. I really struggle with boys name's (so would be much easier if it's a girl!) I do like Henry, but think it sounds a bit stiff and I had a client with a son called Henry and she called him Hen which I don't like.

I am looking for a name that isn't too unusual and goes with surname Newby. Any suggestions?

harry is the nickname for henry (prince harrys name is in fact henry)....

henry is a great name and you can shorten to harry...imo harrison is chavvy sorry

like all your girls names ...think alice is my fav

think the best thing is to shoten it down to about 2 boy and girls names and then finally decide once the baby arrives...we had 2 names for ds2 and when he came out he just looked like one of the names (henry!!!! he wasn't a george!!)

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/07/2008 08:50

Matilda and Harrison.
Morgan only if you are Scottish.

pointydog · 02/07/2008 16:11

Why if you are Scottish? It's not a Scottish name

minouminou · 02/07/2008 16:20

soz, but whenever i hear the name harrison now, i think of tony harrison the octopus shamen thingie from mighty boosh
and, while he's a fab character..............

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/07/2008 16:26

I know pointy - it's actually welsh isn't it, but the only Morgan I've ever known was Scottish, so I'll always think of it as a Scottish name .
