Hello,

We’re expecting our second child a week today and we’re still unsure about names! We have a toddler called Isaac, and we don’t know this baby’s sex.

For girls, our current favourites are:

Sylvie
Mabel
Beatrice/ Beatrix

For boys, we have:
Wilfred
Tobias
Barnaby

I like quite classic or vintage style names (I think!) and ideally with a nice meaning. I love the meaning behind Isaac- he will laugh.

Which of these fit best do you think? And feel free to add any others!

Thank you.

Martha? I think it sounds a bit more current than Mabel, though i don't know why!

Lucas for a boy?

Of your names, I like Beatrice and Tobias the best.

KWhOoo · 16/09/2026 15:05

Sylvia and Tobias sound perfect with Isaac imo.

TruffleSlinky · 16/09/2026 15:11

Sylvie and Tobias (Toby)

SkaneTos · 16/09/2026 15:12

I think they are all good names!

Sylvie and Tobias are my favourites from your list.

Confetti57 · 16/09/2026 15:16

Mabel and Tobias!

TellHerIFeelFine · 16/09/2026 15:17

Sylvie and Mabel both lovely names, I like Mabel best, not a massive Beatrice fan although I do love the Shakespeare character, I think it's the "beat" I don't like. Love Tobias and Barnaby, I had a rabbit called Wilfred so that ones not for me!
Other possibles - Bertram, Miles, Vera, Edith

From your list I would choose Beatrice or Tobias.

My other suggestions, that I think fit the classic/vintage vibe, and have lovely meanings, and flow well with Isaac:

Estelle (star)
Felicity (happiness)
Felix (happy, fortunate)
Asher (happy, blessed)

Forgottenmyphone · 16/09/2026 18:37

Out of your list, I like Beatrix and Barnaby best

All of these have lovely meanings:

Dulcie
Naomi
Eleanor
Nancy
Alice
Felicity
Clara
Stella
Maisie

Jasper
Ethan
Laurence
Archie
Hector

Beatrix and Barnaby.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 16/09/2026 18:59

I like the Welsh version of Mabel - Mabli. Pronounced with a short "a" as in cab, and a long e - lee. It means beloved or dear one.

Tobias is nice. Goes well with Isaac.

Thank you everyone. There are some really lovely suggestions here!

Beatrix or Barnaby - both would go beautifully with Isaac.

Prefer Sylvie and Tobias.

Others ..
Sibyl
Sally
Dominic
Thomas

cartagenagina · Today 07:22

Sylvie and Tobias are my favourites from your list.

timoteigirl · Today 11:37

I think Barnaby meaning does not suit for a younger brother whereas Benjamin does. Mathias?

What about Susannah for a girl?

Thinkofnewthings · Today 11:45

I don’t think your girl names go at all with Isaac. Maybe Barnaby or Tobias for the boys. Wilfred doesn’t go at all.
