Need help with a girl name!

Hi all,

My husband and I have been struggling with a name for our baby girl. We like classic names especially those that have a meaning behind them. We’ve shortlisted the folllowing - Emma, Grace, Charlotte, Esther and have likely decided to go with Esther. But we are concerned it may sound a little old!

What do you guys think of Esther! What comes to mind when you hear the name?

Prefer Hester.

Esther is so pretty :) I would have considered it (or Hester) but neither go with our surname.

I really like it. It’s a little bit ‘granny chic’ like Maude, Edith, Mabel, Margot etc… I know a toddler called Esther, and I think it suits her.

I like Esther. Also Grace. Emma and Charlotte ok but a bit overused.

I’ve met one or two little girl Esther’s and it always suits them beautifully. I love it

I’m not a fan personally, I prefer Emma. Grace is overused.

I love it. It is a bit old fashioned but in line with many other names becoming more popular eg Dorothy, Enid, Daphne etc.

I do like Esther. I really do.

A name that is similar in sound is Heather. Just throwing it out there.

Not a fan, but love love Charlotte and Grace !

I like it a lot. I went to high school with an Esther in the early 2000s and it seemed fine to me then too, so I think it's quite timeless.

It’s lovely.

I love it. I went to college with an Esther ( 40 years ago for context). Her sister was Nancy.
I felt the other students and I had such boring names in comparison.

I think Esther is soft and pretty, and would have it on my list if I didn’t already know an adult Esther.

I like Esther (and Hester!)- and as an ex-teacher, it was one of those "names you know, but there aren't millions of them to mix up with ones with similar names".

Grace is also an excellent name.

Sorry, I don't like Esther as it sounds like fester and reminds me of making esters in chemistry. I personally don't think its pretty or nice at all.
Emma, Grace, Charlotte are so much nicer IMO.
Some other ideas: Coral, Coralie, Evie, Edie/Edith, Loretta, Lauren

Don’t like Esther, it’s very plain imo.

My favourite is Emma, not overused imo.

I love Esther, makes me think of the character in Bleak House, she is so lovely.
I also like Hester and it’s a family name, but I couldn’t use either because of our surname.

Esther is beautiful, I love it. An underused classic imo. It was on my shortlist for our little girl and was only just pipped to the post!
