What are your thoughts on the name Wynn for a baby girl?

I recently met a Wynne from USA and I thought the name was gorgeous - I’ve had mixed reviews when I’ve asked others, I prefer the spelling with the E.

dislike it - seems hippy-ish

Wyn (one 'n') in Wales is very much a mans name. I'd find it odd to come across a girl called Wynn. Wynne with an 'e' a bit better, and Win short for Winifred fine. Outside of Wales she'll probably be fine too, but 'Wyn' is definitely a mans/boys name to me.

Wy do look names look American to me. Like Wyatt.

I love the name Winnie.

Wyn is both a
man’s name and a suffix suggesting a man’s name. Eg Gwen/Gwyn.

Wynne with an e if you must but everyone will think she’s a man (on second thoughts, that may be an advantage on CVs etc)

Wynne, Wyn, Winnie etc all read as short for Winifred. (Which is in fact better anyway.)

Oh i think it is a Welsh male, name i get American names for girls can be unisex but with your Rileys etc but I don't think Wynn would work and people would assume Winnie.

Wyn is a very popular middle name for both girls and boys in wales.
I’ve never thought of it as a girls name, but why not? It sounds lovely.

technically, in welsh, the female version would be wen or Gwen. But, I wouldn’t think that means everyone in the world would assume she’s male.

It’s not the worst name I’ve come across but not for me.

In our family we have a Wynter who is usually known as Winnie or Wyn. At her primary school there are two other Wynter/Winters
Personally I think it’s a lovely name….but then I’m biased….

@londongirl2701 , it's a Welsh surname (Wynn/Wynne) and is a boy's name. Wyn was very popular as a middle name in the 1960s for boys and girls but is a masculine adjective.

As someone who had the misfortune to be named Lynne, please don't call your child Wynn.

I'm always embarrassed when I have to introduce myself because it just disappears into nothingness. She'll get "did you say Lyn or Gwen?" and depending on accents will get called variations of Ween/When/Wan

It's a similar nothingy-sounding name that nobody will be able to spell and everyone will lengthen. Not only that, it's a boy's name as well so she'll find herself on the boys list of the class register.

There are so many beautiful girls names out there. Please don't do it. Go with a longer name like Winifred or Winter and call her that for short if you must.

@Lynneisahorriblename , I like Lynne. I have an Auntie Lynne. Probably the only person over 50 in Wales whose middle name isn't Wyn, Ann or Jane.

Thanks all - a lot of opinions are the same as who I asked already! I guess the whole Welsh element didn’t mean a lot to me as I’m from London and don’t know any Welsh people, I love Winnie as a nickname just thought really liked the look of wynne written and sounded more like a first name I feel Winnie is a bit nick-namey - thanks though everybody your opinions are much appreciated 💚

The Wynn spelling is associated with Wynnstay.
