This is probably very outing if you know me. So pretend you haven't seen this if you think you do know me!

I am pregnant with my third child (boy) he has two siblings named Robert and Philippa. Looking for a name to go with these two. Current top pick is Laurence, but I also like Christopher. What are your opinions on Laurence, and do you have any alternative suggestions?

Thank you!

I love it and it is nice with Robert and Philippa.

garlictwist · 14/07/2026 04:49

I had a little friend called Laurie when I was a child. At the time I thought it was hilarious his name was Lorry and couldn’t understand why he was named after a vehicle.

Robert, Philippa and :

Laurence is handsome.
Christopher is also.

Others ..
Lloyd
Thomas
Desmond
Quentin
Simon

Butterflybluebell · 14/07/2026 08:21

I like it. Strong, handsome name imo.

Daffodilsinthespring · 14/07/2026 16:10

Prefer Christopher as I like Kit. Laurence is nice too but not keen on Loz.

StrongandNorthern · 14/07/2026 16:26

Laurence is lovely (Lawrence less so - looks like a surname maybe?)
Laurie is lovely too.
Imo Christopher is pretty boring. Shortens to Chris - more boring!
(I have a cousin called Christopher ... always pronounced ' Kristifer', which, frankly, is just plain bloody weird).
Laurence, definitely.
Enjoy 😘

Helenbelena · 14/07/2026 17:14

Laurence is the feminine version of Laurent.

Like Florence is to Florent

For a boy, I’d definitely use Lawrence!

midlifeattheoasis · 14/07/2026 17:30

I think it’s a great fit with the siblings names. I knew a Laurence once whose NN was Loz, which I quite liked

ginasevern · 14/07/2026 18:07

Look no further OP. Laurence is a fabulous name and so is Laurie for short. Christopher is nice too but I prefer Laurence, and I like that particular spelling of it.

HughManity · 14/07/2026 18:55

I think it sounds wet. I like Robert and Philippa.

Peopleshouldhavetails · 14/07/2026 18:59

Love it, especially love Laurie , which sounds much friendlier than Chris for a child

User6761 · 14/07/2026 21:56

I know a 5 year old Lawrence. His parents thought he'd be a Lawrie but no, he is 100% a Lawrence and name has never been shortened. It's quite a big name somehow for a baby but can't imagine him as anything else now!

I have a Lawrence and I tried for ages to call him Laurie, he was having none if it. The only diminutive he'll answer to it Loz/Lozza 😂

Wildywondrous · 19/07/2026 00:16

The Laurence's I know are both shortened to Loz.
Laurie is still two syllables so no shorter.

deelishiS0 · 19/07/2026 00:21

Love it!

Farcry66 · 19/07/2026 00:26

I have a Laurence, he is mostly called Laurie, although I do call him Lol as well. Inspired by Little Women!

minipoodlemum · 19/07/2026 10:35

DS has Laurence as a middle name. In France Laurence is a girls’ name if that sways your choice of spelling, however we have a French extended family and no one has ever remarked on it. It’s a great name!

@Helenbelena , Only in French-speaking countries, and who cares anyway other than the MNer who posts this whenever Laurence is mentioned.

Laurence Olivier
Laurence Fishburne
Laurence Fox
Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen
Laurie (Laurence) Lee
(Theodore) Laurence in Little Women...

All MEN!

Roselilly36 · 19/07/2026 11:38

I prefer Christopher, goes nicer IMHO with the sibling names.

Helenbelena · 19/07/2026 11:56

@HughManity ‘who cares anyway’

Well, the op might care as she asked about opinions on the name Laurence.

I would think it’s helpful to know that the name is a women’s name in french speaking countries. Whether it matters to the op or not is up to them, but I just wanted to share the information.

greenfingers2026 · 19/07/2026 23:35

Laurence goes well with your other children's names. We have a Laurence in the family and he is a Loz! Laurie is so lovely, not least because I've always loved Little Women.

mushforbrain · 13/07/2026 21:09

I know you’re spelling it differently but I immediately thought of Lawrence Fox

Me too, and hence, it’s a no

Tuncro · 25/07/2026 15:16

I have a Laurence shortened to Laurie. He is an adult and loves his name. Lawrence is a surname in my brain.

ToadRage · 25/07/2026 15:22

I prefer the Lawrence spelling and use Law as abbreviation. As aside please promise me you don't call your daughter Pippa. Philippa is a beautiful name but i have always hated Pippa.
