Thoughts on Walter?

It’s a family name and our daughter also has an older family name. I’m just worried it’s too old/strong. Other older boy name suggestions are welcome!

Not for me but if you like it then go for it

CanterThroughChaos · Yesterday 08:07

My mind went straight to breaking bad

OllyBJolly · Yesterday 08:09

Softy Walter in the Beano!

I know a few Walters - nice guys but not a good name.

EmpressaurusKitty · Yesterday 08:09

I don’t know how popular the Beano is nowadays but a lot of people in the UK are immediately going to think of Walter the Softy. Or of ‘you wally’ meaning ‘you twit’.

SeasideDaisy · Yesterday 08:11

My friend had a little toddler called Walter, he is very cheeky and cute, it really suits him.. If you like it use it.

Treylime · Yesterday 08:12

Walter the softy is my first thought. My ds used to read The Beano annuals until a few years ago I assume he is still a character in it.
I don't like the nicknames either Walt/Wally aren't very nice.

Edenmum2 · Yesterday 08:14

I’m in my 40’s and have never heard of Walter the Softy. I would think of breaking bad but it’s not necessarily bad thing. I think it’s cute.

Gardenisablooming · Yesterday 08:15

Nowt cute about Wally

Enko · Yesterday 08:16

I love it. It was on our list of possibles. I thibk its a strong name and it won't be one you will hear of many of yet everyone will know the name.

To me thats the perfect sweet spot for names.

CoffeeBeansGalore · Yesterday 08:17

Another one here who grew up with The Beano - softy Walter being a target for Dennis the Menace.
It's old but not a strong name. I personally would not inflict it on a child.
If you want a traditional vibe:-

Peter
Samuel
George
Joseph

I love it. My Labrador is called Walter 🤣

GeorgeMichaelsCat · Yesterday 08:17

No. Shortened to Wally. Wouldn't do that to a kid myself.

Wednesdaysotherchild · Yesterday 08:19

A nice name but reminds me of Walter White from Breaking Bad. The Beano ref is lost on me in my 40s.

Runsaway · Yesterday 08:22

I like it. I think it’s a strong name. It helps that I know a great one.

Pemba · Yesterday 08:23

Try as I might, I can only see it as an old man's name. Apart from that, it's not horrible I suppose.

Ipsevenenabibas · Yesterday 08:23

I read Walter and think White as in breaking bad.

Letmebeeee · Yesterday 08:24

Really bad. I don’t see it as a strong name.

JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods · Yesterday 08:47

No.

Indianajet · Yesterday 08:50

Walter is in our family (Grandfather) but I didn't inflict it on my children. Wally is not a good nickname to be stuck with.

Yamyamabroad · Yesterday 08:51

A lifetime of "Where's Wally" jokes

Bubbleybees · Yesterday 08:56

I absolutely love it. One of my faves. Little Walt 🥰 Sadly voted by DH as we inadvertently gave DS a name which is easily teased 😭 so thought we should avoid the potential of Wally.

user293948849167 · Yesterday 09:18

I really don’t like it, but maybe as a middle name?

SpringSparrow · Yesterday 09:21

Family name here too, but I don’t like it.

oldestmumaintheworld · Yesterday 09:24

It's awful. Up there with Wilfred and Albert. First World War vibes.

PurpleReindeer2 · Yesterday 09:27

Awful. Use it as his middle name.
