Last name is two syllables beginning with R.

Middle name we think will be Daisy.

Current contenders:

Cleo
Beatrix
Brooke
Edith
Esther
Laura
Lorna

Haven't had that thunder bolt moment with any names at all. Planning to wait till we meet them to make the final decision, but would like it narrowed down to 2 or 3 per gender before they arrive.

BookishBobby · 29/06/2026 12:36

Beatrix is my favourite from your list and I think Beatrix Daisy Roberts (or whatever your surname is) balances really well

24Dogcuddler · 29/06/2026 12:51

I like Esther and Laura. Daisy is lovely.
How about Lydia?

PrincessOfPreschool · 29/06/2026 13:27

What are your boy's names?

I'm loving Miranda at the moment for some reason, I also like Penelope and Eleanor.

PrincessOfPreschool · 29/06/2026 13:29

Stella is another of my favourites

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 29/06/2026 13:31

Cleo
Beatrix
Lorna

These are the best of that bunch imo.
I like all three equally

None of those are bad choices though

Forgottenmyphone · 29/06/2026 13:32

I like Beatrix and Edith best

Mumofgirls2017 · 29/06/2026 13:41

Firebird83 · 29/06/2026 14:01

I love Esther from your list!

gillybombilly · 29/06/2026 14:03

Beatrix and Edith are lovely.

Mosaic80 · 29/06/2026 14:05

I love Cleo and think Cleo daisy goes well.

BlackberrySquash · 29/06/2026 14:12

Very sweet and gentle names. Apart from Esther - possibly a bit harsher. Cleo gets my vote.

But just to say any name but Laura! Perfectly nice name but there are about 10 billion of them all in their 30's and 40's now. An exceptionally common overused boring name in my experience. Perhaps it's not been used for a while. But although nice, it's terribly dull! (sorry Laura's).

SwedishEdith · 29/06/2026 14:13

I love Cleo but don't think it flows with Daisy.

Beatrix, Esther, Laura and Lorna all scan better, to me.

Well thank you for the kind comments!

@24Dogcuddler DH suggested that, but sadly the name of a bully from school, bad connotations shudder.

@BookishBobby I've not actually written them out like that but you're right, that has a real ring to it! And I like the idea of having a little Bea ❤️

@BlackberrySquash 😂 really not a Laura fan! Currently reading little house on the prairie with my older 2, and also it's a family name on DH's side so is currently very popular in this house. I prefer Laurie personally, but it's not made the cut.

@Firebird83 thank you! Esther came about as we met one last year, in her 30's and she was just the coolest person. Been on the radar since then. She said her family nn was Hettie, which I also like. I love lots from your long list, many of them feature in our close family/circle already so have been stricken off for that reason (Martha, Susannah, Alice, Anna, Hannah). Can't have any J names as we visit Germany a lot and it has a totally different sound there, and we were thinking a first name ending in an ee sound might be too much with Daisy...like Connie Daisy. I blooming love the name Flora but have a v close family member called Florence and also it's the name of my neighbours dog 🤣.

@PrincessOfPreschool my niece is Stella 🥰 I didn't mention boys as I posted a thread about them a few weeks ago separately. Currently Gus, Casper, Elliot, Peter, Luke, Alistair and I like Gilbert but have been out voted. My kids really like Dennis, DH and I not so sure.

Clio was put forward as we all love history and she's the greek muse of history, but then had a few vroom vroom/car comments so thought spelling it Cleo would be better. It flows very nicely with the other children's names too imo.

I like Cleo and Laura from your list.

I know a lot of grown up Laura’s but only one small one. Makes a change from the endless Lilys and Olivias and Evies.

Don’t like any of the others.

NamingNoNames · 29/06/2026 16:38

Cleo - ok but there are lots of Theos and Leos
Beatrix - not keen
Brooke - dated
Edith - not keen
Esther - like, seems gentle
Laura - like but not the best with an R surname
Lorna - like but depends on the accent

Ignore the Daisy, she'll be Cleo Rsurname.

Giraffehaver · 29/06/2026 22:24

Beatrix and Esther are my favourites. Beatrix just pips it for me

BlackberrySquash · 29/06/2026 23:29

It's so nice when OPs take the time to respond to people 🙂 i know it's not always possible with a lot of replies.

Laura is a very nice name hence it's popularity, it's just I know sooooooooo many. The Olivia of its day I guess. Perhaps it has been out of fashion long enough that it is fresh again.

I hope all goes well and I'm sure you'll find the perfect name!

mathanxiety · 29/06/2026 23:30

I'd drop Laura immediately. The R would be too much with a surname beginning with R.

Also Brooke (I think it sounds harsh and clunky).

My favourite from your eclectic list are Cleo, Lorna, and Beatrix.

NamingNoNames · 29/06/2026 23:39

I know a Laura R-surname and it's fine but you'd need to try it out.

JustGiveMeReason · 30/06/2026 00:35

From your list I like Esther and Lorna best.

LivingTheDreamish · 30/06/2026 00:59

I like Edith and Beatrix best. Cleo is sweet so if that fits nicely with sibling names I’d keep that on the shortlist.

Lara? Unless it’s a tongue twister with your R surname.

NuffSaidSam · 30/06/2026 01:35

I like Cleo best from this list. Also like Beatrix and Brooke.

Some suggestions:

Elodie
Athena
Maeve
Rowan

TAS123 · 30/06/2026 11:11

I like Cleo and Edith Best. Some names to add to your list could be Alba, Bianca, Laurel, Meryl, Dahlia, Lenore, Pippa, Maxine, Colette, Juliet, Briella, Lucille, Pearl, Clara, Simone, Imogen, Opal, Mabel, Leona, Lois, Adelaide, April, Della, Tessa

Namiemcnameface · 30/06/2026 11:27

@TAS123 oo I hadn't thought of Lois! Thanks!
