Me and Dp had originally decided on the name skye for dd3 due in 8 weeks but after so many nasty responses to the name we have decided to try again.

After loking through baby name sites today we have found 2 out of the thousand that we looked at.

The trouble is, we cant decide which or what sounds right with the surname!

They are Kara and Brooke.

Surname is Williams.

Any feedback would be great

thanks xxx

I love Skye. And Cara rather that Kara. It sounds softer, if that makes sense.

Cara Skye is fabulous.

iliketosleep · 23/06/2008 21:38

would it be shortened to car though

cara skye is lovely, go for that

Heated · 23/06/2008 21:48

Cara with a C is classier/prettier than with a K. Skye is a good choice too and certainly deserves putting back on the list.

The problem with RL ppl is that they all have a comment to make about a name, if you ask them. Ppl come to inhabit their names and your rl friends and family will come to love whatever name you choose, because to them, that name will mean your child...if that makes sense!

Jodyray · 23/06/2008 21:48

Skye and Brooke are both lovely.

iliketosleep · 23/06/2008 21:51

MaloryBriocheSaucepot would i be right in thinking you dont like any of our chosen names?? lol

I think you should stop telling people what names you are thinking about because you sound very sensitive at the moment (and nothing wrong with that). Just decide between you and your dp and then tell everyone else afterwards. People rarely comment on names (at least to your face) once the baby is born, and names do grow on people.

Cara Skye Williams sounds just fine, but you know there are lots of girl's called Isabelle around and they don't seem scarred by it!

iliketosleep · 23/06/2008 21:56

Im not sensitive

I just wanted a bit of advice

I like Cara Skye - sounds very pretty and goes well with your surname

seeker · 23/06/2008 21:57

None of the above, I'm afraid.

Brief hijack - Hi MartianBishop good to see you.

Weegiemum · 23/06/2008 22:17

Go for Skye!! My dd has 2 girls in her class called that and I think it is a fab name. Do it!

Mum2BabyRoo · 23/06/2008 22:35

Skye is beautiful... and you will only get a few idiots making fun of her name...

I have a friend who called her daughter Skyla - and I LOVE the name.

olyoly · 23/06/2008 23:06

They are all pretty names, so pick the one you like most. Once the name actually belongs to your baby, everyone will love it too.

Spidermama · 23/06/2008 23:08

I LOVE Skye. It's not all that weird these days either. I would go for it and ignore the nastiness if I were you.

throckenholt · 24/06/2008 06:05

I like Skye and Kara - not so keen on Brooke.

But all are fine - choose which you prefer - you are the ones who have to live with it after all !

Heffagooday · 24/06/2008 09:56

Skye is beautiful! I was quite keen on it but we could never use it with our surname.

Cara Skye sounds lovely too.

hannah001 · 24/06/2008 12:13

Gotta say Esme makes me want to vomit too but it's because I used to work with a hugely fat, smelly and completely hopeless woman called Esme and it put me off a bit.

belgo · 24/06/2008 12:14

Skye is lovely.

terrier141 · 24/06/2008 12:19

Skye is a very pretty, girly name and I love it so much that is what my 8 year old dd is called - it suits her! My parents hated it at first - but now cant imagine her being called anything else. If anyone has ever made any nasty comments, I have never heard about it. Unfortunately it is becoming more popular (though definately not common!)

Brooke is a beautiful name - makes me think of a very girly, pretty, dainty girl again - infact we are ttc at the mo and I may have to steal that idea from you if I have a girl! Lol

Kara is pretty too.

Have you thought about Fearne (as Fearne Cotton) or Fern (as in Fern Britton) - another name I love!

Or how about Amber?

TillyScoutsmum · 24/06/2008 12:22

Prefer Skye or Cara. Not so keen on Brooke

VictorianSqualor · 24/06/2008 12:22

I like Brooke it was a contender for DC2 if it was a girl, but didn't really fit with our surname, but out of those I'd choose Kara, probably with a C though.
I don't see what is wrong with Skye.
TBH it doesn't matter what name you give a child there will be someone who can take the piss, I'm sure Brooke would end up with questions about why not call her Lake and Kara sounds a lot like car, or kara kara kara chameleon, so choose what name you like, and use it, don't tell/ask anyone and they won't be able to say anything til it's too late.

kslatts · 24/06/2008 13:02

I love Skye, but out of Kara and Brooke I think I would go for Brooke. When we had dd1 we had mixed reactions from the name we choose but stuck with it and I'm glad we did, she loves it.
