It’s Elowen (el-OH-en). It’s a Cornish name and that’s how it’s spelt :) Just an FYI if it’s on your list, OP.

But that’s incorrect? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Kernowek is a language with rules. You can’t just pick and choose the spelling or the word loses its meaning. Elowen means ‘elm tree’. ‘Elowyn’ means nothing.

If you can’t respect the language/culture that the name comes from then I suggest avoiding the name altogether :)

There’s something about being told not to do something that makes me want to do it more 😋

I love Nora and Eira. Also Romy and Amelie but can’t use them sadly!

Elowyn was used more than twice as much we Elowen last year in England and Wales.
It's on a steep rise, I think Elowyn will become established as a name in it's own right.
Personally I prefer the Elowyn pronunciation as I wouldn't want to spend my life saying noooo it's El-OH-en. We nearly used it.
I like all your names except Briar due to the meaning.

Do you like Fern, Aeryn, Willow, Eala, Fiadh (Fia)

Daphnedolittle2 · 31/05/2026 10:17

Just to add, no disrespect to the original culture or pronunciation of the name.
I love the history of names and I think Elowen is beautiful.

As long as people acknowledge it as a made up name then no worries. It’s when people go ‘Oh it’s Welsh/Cornish/Irish and means X’ that really bugs me 😅
