Thoughts on Skye for a girl?

What does everyone think about this name?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know 2 girls called Skye. Both are early twenties, one a nice but no gumption, the other an absolute madam.
no positive associations for me, and I don’t think it’ll age well.
but I bear grudges, I don’t like Sarah’s or Tracy’s based on past experience…

Paw patrol!

FruAashild · 24/05/2026 18:17

I like it but would assume you had Scottish links, do you? Also, to reference the comment above, isn't it funny we don't spell Isla like the island?

FernFaery · 24/05/2026 18:19

I like it. It reminds me of Sky Mangel from Neighbours and makes me think of a slightly hippy bleached blonde (in a nice way)

VintageLane · 24/05/2026 18:21

I think it’s chavvy. Mostly because I once knew a chavvy person whose staffy was named Skye.

Shelleyblueeyes · 24/05/2026 22:17

Yes. Love it.

Also
Skyler or Skylar

Advocodo · 24/05/2026 22:18

I quite like it.

Firebird83 · 24/05/2026 23:07

I prefer it for a boy.

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/05/2026 23:50

I did have an Isla and a Skye next to each other on the register once which made me smile - both lovely names

Darlia96 · 24/05/2026 23:58

I love

I might do Skyla or Skylar and use Skye as a nn though

Viviennemary · 25/05/2026 00:11

I don't like it much but I've heard a lot worse.

Bobbieiris · 25/05/2026 09:32

@FernFaery I was thinking of sky mangle off neighbours too!

HugoThatway · 25/05/2026 10:36

Skyla and Skylar are downmarket.

Very common (in quantity) nowadays. Big when Sienna was doing the rounds. Similar vibe.

I think Skye is more classic than Sienna, which I think is really going to date and become one of the Brenda names of the future.

I rather like it OP. It isn't in the style of names I choose for my own but I'd think it was a pretty choice if someone else chose it.

Skyla and Skylar are downmarket.

I think they are a completely different sort of name from Skye.

ChasingRainbow5 · 25/05/2026 14:49

I like it. The Isle of Skye is beautiful.

Perfect middle name for Isla.

You can’t have Isla Skye together or every Scottish person you every meet will snigger 🤭

both are lovely but separate

I'm 99.9% sure that was a joke...

I know a couple of girls named Islay, confuses people no end!

Never! Grin

Heleh · 25/05/2026 15:01

about 40 years ago I knew a Skye her brother was called Storm. So they were teased every new year. Probably easier name to use these days.

GiantFloatyFlingo · 25/05/2026 15:13

Skye is a council estate name here.

I don’t like it.
