I like Romy. How about Romilly with Romy as a potential nickname?

Not so keen on Eden. I know a lovely girl with the name (Catholic, not Jewish), but it still hasn't grown on me.

Marshallmallow · 10/05/2026 14:11

The Romy I know is short for Ramona. I think both are lovely.
Eden is very pretty.

Dd is Romy!

Romy as in Romy Schneider! The famous actress! Very popular name in Germany and France, I love it! (Currently pregnant and will be naming my baby Romy 🤍)

I have the Schneider association as well with Romy. Her actual name was Rosemarie afaik.

Eden is lovely! It is (obviously) a name with a lot of religious significance, which parents should consider (and appreciate) when naming a child Eden (at least in my opinion).

I know 2 Romy's and they are both boys do i'd personally go with Eden for a girl

Dahlia1234 · 10/05/2026 20:17

Eden is nice. Not keen on Romy

BlueShoeGlue · 10/05/2026 20:22

Personally hate the name Eden. Not sure why.

Romy is fairly cute. Out of the two definitely hands down Romy is my preference.

user2848502016 · 10/05/2026 20:23

Neither are really to my taste but I prefer Eden of the two

mygrandchildrenrock · 10/05/2026 20:24

They are both beautiful names, in my opinion.

catin8oot5 · 10/05/2026 20:25

Romilly

Peopleshouldhavetails · 10/05/2026 20:25

Really like Romy but think Eden is pretty too.

You could’ve shared your associations without quoting me but as you did I feel I have to justify mine -
Eden is a very common girls’ name in Israel, even top name a couple of decades ago. It was made popular here through the Jewish communities around 2005-2010.
Means paradise from Hebrew, as I’m sure op already knows.

Thanks for letting us know what Romy is diminutive for in Germany/ Austria.

The only Edens I know are from culturally quite hippie/ alternative families, and their names were definitely not inspired by religion of any stripe. The oldest would be in her early 30s at this point and the younger three are mid 20s and 4.

The Edens I know (four different families) have sisters Aria, Freya, Kismet, Tatum, and Lilac, and brothers Glenn, Bodhi, and Thor.

Wampwhad · 11/05/2026 01:53

I have a Romy, she’s awesome 🤩 Get lots of compliments on her name. Only downside is that Boris Johnson named one of his children the same name. 🤮

ScullyD · 11/05/2026 02:13

I don’t like Eden due to the Garden of reference and Eve stealing the apple etc. just don’t like that for a girl.

My best mate is called Eden. Beautiful name. I know someone called Romy too and I do like that, but I prefer Eden.

Frustration247 · 11/05/2026 11:12

Both lovely names , I have a Romy and she loves her name!

drunkelephant83 · 11/05/2026 11:13

I know girls and boys with the name Eden, it’s very pretty.

I like them both.

how about Roma? Bit different but Remi?

PixelDustMom · 11/05/2026 11:15

Both lovely names. My favourite is Eden, I love Edie.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 11/05/2026 11:27

I like both of them, Eden makes me think of one of the Barbara Vine novels.

I think Mick Hucknall's daughter is called Romy, for some reason I assumed it was Italian because of his love of Italy. I had no idea it had German roots.

Firebird83 · 11/05/2026 12:20

I know a Romy short for Rosamund, and the only Eden I know is a boy.
