Read a novel that was fairly old about 15 years ago on holiday and it was based in Greece. The name of one of the characters was Olaria. I haven't seen it anywhere else. What are your thoughts?

I'm not a fan. I would prefer Alaria, but not sure if that is a name. Don't think Olaria looks or sounds pretty. Behindthename says it's version of Eulalia... honestly, Eulalie looks and sounds better.

I think that's pretty too but I worry it would naturally nickname to Ala which would sound religious s

I like it if it's said Ol-AR-ia, but I'd be worried it would get mispronounced Ol-ar-EE-a. It's the problem with unusual names, I suppose. If the prospect of constantly clarifying doesn't bother you then I think it's a pretty name

No, it sounds like a made up name for a skincare product.

Sounds awkward. It's going to be mispronounced ALL the time.
What about Alyia? Or Alana?

Olaria - Behind the Name
My search engine corrected it to Oralia.

Definitely looks and sounds like something you find in a pharmacy

Yes, I was hearing it as a brand of supermarket olive oil, but Oil of Olay also comes to mind.

BlueShoeGlue · 07/05/2026 11:13

unfortunately I think it sounds a bit like it should be a medical treatment for thrush or something.

StationJack · 07/05/2026 11:15

I though it sounded oily and like Malaria.

It does.

Or a variety of diaorrhea induced by eating too many olives.

Just go with Aurelia Op.

Not everything has to be "different." That's when mistakes get made in naming imo.
