I posted a week or so ago with a very long list. The list is a bit shorter now - some names removed and there are some new as well!

Middle name will be Claire.

Lydia
Nancy
Martha
Hazel
May (really like this but not sure Claire works as middle name?)
Connie
Polly

Would be great to get thoughts / ranking on these

Nancy Claire
Martha Claire
May Claire

That's my order of preference.

BoleynMemories13 · 30/04/2026 06:55

Lydia Claire or Hazel Claire are the clear winners for me.

May and Connie are both nice but do not go so well with the middle name.

Nancy is ok, but not a favourite of mine.

Martha and Polly aren't my style. I've always found Martha a bit stuffy and Polly is quite twee.

Lydia and Hazel are both lovely and flow really nicely with Claire.

ThroughTheRedDoor · 30/04/2026 06:58

I like the idea of 3 names. May Martha Claire works!

Peanutlicious · 30/04/2026 07:01

Lydia Claire

MississippiCroc · 30/04/2026 08:02

Lydia. Lydia Claire sounds great.

Really dislike Hazel Martha and Nancy. Polly is nice.

Also I know so many Martha’s where as I only know one Lydia.

LoudPlumDog · 30/04/2026 12:21

Lydia is the only one I like.

MiddleAgedDread · 30/04/2026 12:24

Lydia or Martha
I like Nancy, you don't hear it around much but the names that end in "ee" sounds are giving me eclair vibes when you put them with Claire as a middle name!

StationJack · 30/04/2026 12:40

Hazel Claire sounds like something you'd find in a tub of Kwality Street.

midnights92 · 30/04/2026 12:52

Hazel is lovely. I also like Martha and Lydia but I agree May Claire doesn't really work. The rest are a bit old fashioned.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 30/04/2026 14:17

Lydia best from your list

Dalmationday · 30/04/2026 14:18

Connie or Lydia or Lucy

Firebird83 · 30/04/2026 14:38

Martha is my favourite

newrubylane · 30/04/2026 14:47

All nice. I think Lydia (which I nearly used myself, so that would be my choice) Nancy or Hazel work best with Claire - a lovely choice of middle name, by the way. Classic but quite unusual now.

RomeWasVisitedInADay · 30/04/2026 15:34

Don't worry if it doesn't go with Claire as middle names are hardly ever used after the first couple of weeks of introducing her to everyone, the only people that will ever see it again are you, her and passport control. Most forms you don't even have to include it.

Ranked in order for my preference:

1 Polly - Absolutely lovely, my 1st choice of your names!

2 May Absolutely love this name, it is a family name for me and I hate that it ahs become a filler middle name as it is really special to me. It was in my top 5. It only comes second to Polly because of all the annoying people that boringly used it as a middle name!

3 Nancy - Cute.

4 Martha - This was fairly popular round my way about 10-15 years ago, I find it a bit dull and know a handful of little girls called Martha now.

5 Connie - Cute, bit 50 year old woman, and I'd assume parents were country music fans.

7 Hazel - Seems to be pretty popular on here, I find it really unpleasant sounding, reminds me of a Mrs Trunchbull type character. Sorry!

6 Lydia - I'm not sure if it was your post or someone else's but I mentioned that bizarrely, this name makes my skin crawl, couldn't remember why at the time but I do now - Aunt Lydia from The Handmaid's Tale! She's a truly terrifying woman who commits some unbearably cruel things on the women in that story, but a lot of people have not read the book or seen the TV show so you'll probably be ok!

Good luck!

harrietm87 · 30/04/2026 15:39

Lydia Claire is really beautiful. Very elegant and classy sounding to me.

Otherwise I would go Martha or Hazel.

May Claire sounds too short and a bit harsh as both one syllable, and the others are nicknames to me so sound a bit odd eg if you want Connie I think Constance Claire sounds better and she could still be Connie day to day.

Cocktailsandcheese · 30/04/2026 16:10

Hazel or Nancy!

welshpolarbear · 30/04/2026 16:14

I love May but agree re the Claire (makes me think of Mayfair randomly!)

I love Nancy and Martha, Nancy just tipping it to first position! Claire goes well with both of those .

The only one I’m not keen on is Lydia, though prob just me as it seems to be popular the last few years.

17caterpillars1mouse · 30/04/2026 16:49

Lydia and May are my favourites but agree you need a different midfle name or an etc middle name

May Clara maybe - depending on surname
Or something like May Isabella Claire

dailyconniptions · 30/04/2026 17:01

Hazel. Lovely.

Chickenwing2 · 30/04/2026 17:02

Lydia, Hazel and Connie are my faves- can’t pick between them as all lovely :)

youalright · 30/04/2026 20:02

I like Hazel

namesnamesnames28 · 30/04/2026 20:04

This has been really helpful thanks all!

Not May or Connie.
I like Lydia and Martha myself.

AgnesMcDoo · 30/04/2026 20:06

Martha is nice

Everlil · 30/04/2026 20:09

Ive never know people to say a person’s first and second name to address them. I would not worry about how well it goes together. It’s the first name they will use solely, so pick your favourite.
