Suggestions for a baby boy name when nothing feels quite right

Very very early days pregnancy wise
we don’t know gender yet

but
if baby is a boy, we are so genuinely STUCK.

there’s names we like

  • Miles
  • Xander
  • Jude
  • Luca
  • Isaac
  • Elijah
  • Elias

However there is something wrong with all of them (in no particular order)

  • Too Popular
  • Too Boring
  • Too plain
  • Too trendy
  • Too biblical sounding
  • Not well received

So we are stuck.
help is appreciated.

Alexander is a lovely name, nicer than Xander.

How about:

Daniel
Edward
William
Hector
Matthew
Oliver
Henry
Jack

Boys names are really hard!

I love some names but we won’t be using them for a number of reasons:

Barney/Barnaby
River
Bobby
Freddy

All the names you listed are quite popular. What about looking at more classic names or less popular names?

Seth
Zachary
Elliot
Jay
Baxter
Harrison
Jonathan
Bryce

I love Elijah, Eli for short

Needspaceforlego · 12/04/2026 01:21

Op a lot of them are biblical you're obviously drawn to those names. The only one on your list I really don't like is Miles, how many miles ?

What about Ruben?
The two Ruben's i know are both about 20.

Josh / Joshua is very popular too.
Jason maybe
Joseph

You've plenty time, get a baby name book, look at both biblical and regal names, something will jump out or you'll wait until the baby is born and they'll look more like one name then the other.

Nico
Asa
Tom
Silas
Callum
Julius

NamingNoNames · 13/04/2026 11:35

What do you like about those names?
I don't see much similarity other than between Elias and Elijah.

It looks like you are looking at names that are currently popular not a list of all the different names you could choose from.

Isaac - Asher
Elijah - Gabriel
Elias - Emmet

I wouldn’t worry about it. You’ll have to call them something and you have the best part of a year to think about it. Nothing was quite right for us either and we agreed on something when our child was about a week old. Don’t let anyone convince you parents need to choose in advance so excited aunties can knit personalised hats. It’s a big decision and you can take your time.

@user1492757084 , one of my sibling did that. The DC2 arrived and none of the names they thought of felt right. No amount of suggestions or baby name lists helped. A name from the family tree seemed right and a bit different so they went with that.
The name is now very popular.
