Mabel.

is Rose the surname?

EJ36 · 11/04/2026 10:08

No, Rose is a second middle name. It’s my middle name so I wanted it in there somewhere.

Mabel.

is Rose the surname?

No, it’s a second middle name. My middle name is Rose so I wanted it in there somewhere. As Etta is a short name I felt it would be nice to have two middles.

Mabel

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 11/04/2026 10:18

I prefer Matilda, it flows better. But in all honesty, people will only use her first and last name so what you put in the middle doesn’t really matter.

Paquitavariation · 11/04/2026 10:27

Mabel. Third Etta I’ve heard of in the last month.

Dozer · 11/04/2026 10:28

Just Etta Rose Surname would be better.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 11/04/2026 10:30

Oh I thought that was the full name when I voted for Matilda, if there’s another name on the end I think Mabel. Personally I think 4 names doesn’t flow very well with this mix but there’s nothing ‘wrong’ with any of them, it’s just a bit bitty.

Peanutlicious · 11/04/2026 10:44

I think Etta Matilda Surname or Etta Rose Surname

Denim4ever · 11/04/2026 10:46

I don't like the name Mabel but Matilda doesn't work with Etta so neither combo for me

NamingNoNames · 11/04/2026 11:44

I wouldn't bother with the Rose. It's so overused as a middle name and has been for decades.
I don't like Mabel at all.

Middle name for Etta | Mumsnet

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 11/04/2026 19:50

I like both

SpringAndSunshineIsHere · 11/04/2026 19:57

Etta Matilda Rose
But I’d probably just go with Etta Rose

Giraffehaver · 11/04/2026 22:43

Mabel. It just fits so well with Etta

mathanxiety · 12/04/2026 00:35

Dozer · 11/04/2026 10:28

Just Etta Rose Surname would be better.

Etta Rose sounds like 'ate a rose' in some accents. I think Etta needs to not have a noun immediately following it.

SummerFrog2026 · 12/04/2026 00:44

Matilda is nicer than Mabel & goes better IMO.

I'd go with Matilda Rose xxxx
but if you're set on Etta id just go with Etta Rose xxxx. One middle name is enough.

LittleRobins · 12/04/2026 03:22

I’d just go with whatever you like best and not worry how it sounds. Full names are so rarely said aloud and apart from when the baby’s born and you announce the name, nobody really cares. My children both have two middle names to honour relatives. It doesn’t matter to me how they sound, in fact I’ve not really thought about it til now!

That being said both choices are beautiful and Mabel and Matilda were both on my girls names list.

SkaneTos · 12/04/2026 23:14

Both are nice!
I voted for Etta Mabel Rose.
