Thoughts on Delilah for a sister to Matilda?

I’m pregnant with my second girl, I already have a Matilda and love the name Delilah for this baby, but the more I research it the more I’m put off it 🙈 I wasn’t aware of the biblical reference until now even though I was brought up in a Christian household. What does everyone else think of this name?

How about Delia? Delilah is not only biblical but a Tom Jones song about the treacherous temptress.

I can understand wanting to name your child Matilda, which is a lovely name. But why, why, why, Delilah?

DandyPanda · 09/04/2026 20:56

I think Delilah is a lovely name

Hey there, Delilah!

user2848502016 · 09/04/2026 20:59

I like it but I think “Matilda and Delilah” is quite a mouthful

Maybe Delia, Dahlia, Lyla or Layla?

Mogbiscuit · 09/04/2026 21:05

I think a shorter name would work better. Daisy?

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 09/04/2026 21:11

These are the names of Helen Flanagan’s daughters so you’re not alone in liking them both. I love Matilda - Delilah less so.

Nervousbuilder · 09/04/2026 21:13

Not my favourite. What about Eliza (could be short for Elizabeth)? Has a similar sort of sound. I also like Matilda and Imogen/ Charlotte/ Alexandra/ Seraphina/ Persephone/ Theodora

I came to say this, and I don't know why I know it 🤣🤣

Overthebow · 09/04/2026 21:19

I like it but not with Matilda.

Ladyinamask · 09/04/2026 21:48

How about Eliza or Jemima?

Giraffehaver · 09/04/2026 22:34

Our baby is Jemima and at one point Matilda was on our list. Jemima means dove

thesnailandthewhale · 09/04/2026 22:39

Tilly and Lily?

GalaxyStarsMoon · 10/04/2026 07:54

I really like Delilah. And I don’t think any kids are going to question any religious reference, it’s popular enough anyway.

mummysmagicmedicine · 10/04/2026 12:11

I love Matilda and Delilah as a sibset I think they fit beautifully.

Many congratulations!

HelenaWilson · 10/04/2026 12:44

But why, why, why, Delilah?

😁😁😁😁😁

marcyhermit · 10/04/2026 12:52

Delilah's very pretty but it is rising in popularity, maybe not to Matilda levels but I know lots of Delilahs and Lilas.

Pernicketywishes · 10/04/2026 12:59

I’ve known two Delilahs - one known as Dilly and the other Lilah. I think it’s a very pretty name.

NamingNoNames · 10/04/2026 13:03

Why why why. Makes me think of the junkie in This Life.
I wasn’t aware of the biblical reference until now even though I was brought up in a Christian household Shock

How about Jessica, Jemima or Tabitha?

TraybakesorCakes · 10/04/2026 13:05

It’s a beautiful name.

BoleynMemories13 · 10/04/2026 13:21

The biblical connotations would put me off too. I always think of the line in Friends, when Ross announces to everyone that their newborn daughter is called Isabella and a hormonal Rachel tears up and says "no that's not her name". When asked by the others what other names they were considering, Ross says 'Delilah' and Rachel wails "oh great, suddenly she sounds like a biblical wh*re ". Yeah, it's not a great reference.

Lyla is lovely as a stand alone name and sounds nice with Matilda. I love the suggestion of Eliza too. Another great match with Matilda.

TraybakesorCakes · 10/04/2026 13:05

It’s a beautiful name.

It isn't (why why why and Biblical ref.) and there are lots of Lila/Lyla/Lyra/Isla names that sound very close to it.

Riapia · 10/04/2026 13:49

Love it.
Also Gloria.

RubyMentor · 10/04/2026 13:58

I like it, I know a Delilah and she’s cute

Foxytights · 10/04/2026 14:06

I don’t like Delilah, sorry.
I don’t like Delia either but I do like Celia. Or Cecelia? Or Cecily?
Jemima was a good suggestion someone made, it has a similar vibe to Delilah but is a more pleasant sound. Same goes for Tabitha.
Matilda and Tabitha sound perfect together imo.
