Sister for Genevieve and Wilfred

I am expecting number 3 in the next couple of months and DH and I cannot agree on a girls name. We do not know the sex of the baby but have a boys name we agree on.

We already have Genevieve (nn Ginny) and Wilfred. Keen for a name that have nickname options as well as a longer, formal name. Not keen on very popular names (for example I LOVE Elspeth but find Elsie too popular now). Would love to hear your suggestions!

Maybe consult Bojo’s newest four children’s names if you like Wilfred?

Thanks I am not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but Wilfred has a special family significance for us. It was mpst definitely not chosen out of any affinity for Boris Johnson and was in fact one thing that almost put us off the name!

My Elspeth is Elspie, but also gets called Speth. We also toyed with Essie and nobody has ever tried to call her Elsie (shes 7) so i wouldnt write it off because you dont want Elsie

intrepidpanda · 13/03/2026 21:13

Ginny, Willy and Tilly sprung to mind.

LilyLemonade · 13/03/2026 21:20

The Elspeths I know have never been known by anything but the full name. It doesn't really need shortening.

Just a comment, in some ways I wouldn't. get worked up about nn.

I have an Elspeth and she definitely does not go by Elsie, and no-one has ever tried!

All of my DC have nicknames given to them by their slightly older sibling, which have always arisen or is the elder being unable to pronounce the new baby's name (and it's unbelievably cute!). As its baby number 3, that might work itself out?
